The Philadelphia Eagles face off against the New England Patriots on Saturday night, marking their second preseason game. There are many storylines to follow, but these five players specifically are ones you should keep a close eye on for Philadelphia against New England.

Kapena Gushiken

Kapena Gushiken has been one of the best stories coming out of Eagles training camp. The UDFA has been making a real name for himself and has already received some praise from DC Vic Fangio. Gushiken has been making a major push to make the initial 53-man roster, and he could earn a bigger role quickly if he does.

Eli Stowers

Eli Stowers has looked really rough throughout the entire process since he became an Eagle. He hasn’t been able to find his footing in the offense or establish any kind of role. Keep an eye on Stowers against New England; if he doesn’t perform or show signs of potential, Philadelphia may have to pivot. Making moves to improve the immediate roster should be the priority, and if Stowers can’t hold his own, then he may need to take a step back. Signing a veteran TE with receiving upside would jump to the top of the Eagles’ needs.

Markel Bell

Markel Bell has had a ton of pressure placed on him recently. He has been discussed as the eventual successor to Lane Johnson when the legendary RT calls it a career at the end of the 2026 season. Bell has been impressive throughout camp and the first preseason game; hopefully more of the same comes against the Patriots.

Joshua Weru

Joshua Weru was signed out of the international player program, similar to Uar Bernard (drafted RD.7). Weru looked very impressive in the preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, raising his stock in camp. He wasn’t really expected to be fighting for a roster spot, but he may be in the conversation now. The Eagles will have to make a decision; Do they place him on waivers and try and sneak him on the practice squad? Or will they keep him around on the initial 53-man roster?

Deontae Lawson

Deontae Lawson is an undrafted free agent linebacker out of Alabama. He was one of the biggest names they signed during the UDFA period, and he’s shown why through camp. It’s a long battle to make the roster, but he’s certainly shown that he has some talent. An impressive showing against New England would boost his chances significantly.
