The Philadelphia Eagles are getting ready to begin their training camp on July 28th. A majority of the roster is set in stone, but some players still have time to make their push to make the Eagles’ 53-man roster.
Some players will be cut, some players will be traded, all because undrafted free agents like these three will put the decision makers in Philadelphia in difficult positions.
Deontae Lawson, an undrafted linebacker from Alabama, has been touted as the team’s “most exciting” UDFA signing this season. Bleacher Report has even made the bold claim that “He could start at some point in his rookie season.”
I wouldn’t go that far, but making the 53-man roster isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility for Lawson.
Maximus Pulley is going to make some real noise throughout this training camp and preseason process. He’s an absolute ball hawk who can force a turnover at any second. He had five interceptions in 2025 at Wofford.
Players forcing turnovers are the easiest way to be noticed by fans and people inside the building. When fighting for a job in the NFL, that’s really all you want to do. Pulley can do that very well. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.
Kapena Gushiken has already gotten into Vic Fangio’s radar in terms of the open safety competition. He is a cornerback who is being trained at safety to fill a positional need. That versatility will make him a very sneaky candidate to make the 53-man roster.
Another indicator that Gushiken may be sticking around: The Eagles gave him $272,000 guaranteed, tied for the most amongst all of their UDFA signings.
These three Eagles will be key players to keep an eye on throughout the entire process of setting the 53-man roster. The safeties specifically have a really good chance at making the roster if they perform at a high level through camp.
