Russell Westbrook is one of the best point guards available in NBA free agency. The 37-year-old vet should find a landing spot pretty soon, but where could that be? Here are three potential landing spots for the former MVP.
The Washington Wizards have already been connected to Westbrook early in the offseason. Bringing him back after his impressive stint during the 2020-21 season would be awesome. He averaged 22.2/11.5/11.7 in 65 games with Washington. If the Wizards rumors are correct, he would be a great backup PG to Trae Young and help them make a push for the playoffs with AJ Dybantsa and company.
Westbrook spent last season with the Sacramento Kings. Ideally, it’s probably time for him to move on if he wants to push for the playoffs and play any meaningful basketball late in his career. He averaged 15/5/7 in his one season with the Kings, still putting up great numbers even at the age of 37.
The Toronto Raptors would be the best opportunity for Westbrook to go out and win a ring before he retires. They just acquired Kawhi Leonard and seem poised to make a run in the East. Westbrook would give them depth at the guard position, something they seriously lack. This would be a situation where both sides benefit; it makes a ton of sense.
Westbrook is on the final stage of his NBA career, and finding the right landing spot should be the priority. He doesn’t really accomplish anything by going back to Sacramento, so I’d rule them out. The Wizards make sense and could be the most realistic option according to NBA rumors. The Raptors are the perfect scenario. Both sides need each other more than they know. This could be Westbrook’s last chance to get a ring.
