Atlanta Falcons Could Acquire Pro Bowl Quarterback
The Atlanta Falcons are just a quarterback away from being a contender in the NFC. Many reporters think that Atlanta could go after Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, or even draft a rookie quarterback. But one option no one is talking about is Titans' quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Here's why the team should look into signing the 35-year-old.
Tannehill Could Improve The Falcons Offense
Ryan Tannehill was a first-round pick in 2012 by the Miami Dolphins, where he started for seven years before taking over the Titans' offense in 2019. He led the Titans to an AFC Championship Game appearance, made his first Pro Bowl, and won AP Comeback Player of the Year. He led the Titans to a 12-5 record in 2021 and the first seed in the AFC. With over 34,000 yards and 216 touchdown passes, Tannehill would bring experience and leadership to the Atlanta Falcons' offense.
The Atlanta Falcons finished 7-10 for the third straight year and fired head coach Arthur Smith, who was Tannehill's coordinator on the Titans. With young, electric weapons in Bijan Robinson and Drake London, the offense struggled due to poor quarterback play by sophomore quarterback Desmond Ridder. Now with a new coach in Raheem Morris and a new coordinator in former Rams' passing game coordinator Zac Robinson, the team is in a win-now situation looking for a new quarterback under center.
Before you call me crazy–think about it. The Falcons could sign Tannehill to a one-year contract and he can mentor whoever the team selects in the NFL Draft, such as JJ McCarthy or Michael Penix Jr. This way, they do not have to rush a rookie immediately if they miss out on other prospects. Additionally, Tannehill has playoff experience from leading the Titans to the AFC Championship Game in 2019 and the AFC's first seed in 2021. This could be an under-the-radar move for the Falcons as they look to compete in a weak NFC South.
