Auburn, led by Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome, will be the top seed in the SEC tournament this coming week. This is well-deserved, considering the season they’ve had. They’re boasting the most Quad 1 wins in the entire country, and have had one of the best seasons Auburn has experienced in a long time.
No team has had more fun this season than the Florida Gators. They are one of the hottest rising teams in college basketball, and their coach, Todd Golden, is also a candidate for Coach of the Year. It has been a thrilling season in Gainesville, and Florida has a real opportunity to secure a one seed in the NCAA tournament.
Mark Sears leads an Alabama team that is also vying for a No. 1 seed going into the SEC tournament. He’s one of the main reasons the team is in its current position. Last year, Alabama made a run to the Final Four and has just as much of a chance this season to make a deep tournament run again.
Tennessee is led by Zakai Ziegler. He has been a tremendous leader for the Volunteers, which is one big reason they secured a double bye heading into the tournament. Chaz Lanier’s sharp shooting has also been a significant factor for the Vols this season, as they are competing for a top seed in the NCAA tournament.
Other Notable Teams
Moving into conference tournament season, several teams like Vanderbilt, Georgia, Arkansas, and even Kentucky and Texas A&M will play a significant role in the SEC tournament. These teams have the potential to surprise some folks along the way.

The SEC basketball tournament this year could be one of the best we’ve seen in quite some time. Historically, SEC basketball has often revolved around just one or two teams, but now the entire conference has improved, thanks to better coaching, talented players, the transfer portal, and NIL deals. These factors have transformed the game and reshaped the landscape of college basketball as a whole.
The most exciting part of the tournament is witnessing fans come from all over to support their teams. The SEC tournament generates significant revenue, and the overall atmosphere during the week is incredible.
