The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be at the forefront of NBA rumors this offseason, most recently expressing interest in an elite defender. Matisse Thybulle has been a reported target of the Lakers. Let’s take a look at who he is as a player and how the rest of the Lakers’ offseason may turn out.
Who Is Matisse Thybulle?

Thybulle was drafted out of Washington with the 20th pick in 2019 by the Philadelphia 76ers . He was praised for his defense out of college, and Sixers fans quickly saw why. He became one of their best defensive players and made his way onto two all-defensive teams.
Thybulle was given a larger offensive role when traded to the Portland Trailblazers. With this opportunity, he showed great progression. In 132 games played for the Trailblazers, his 3P% climbed up to .37%
Injuries have been a legit concern for Thybulle. Ever since being traded to the Trailblazers he has faced numerous injuries that have held him out for a long period of time.
Lakers Offseason Outlook

The Lakers have already had an incredible offseason as they revamp their roster post-Lebron James. Adding Thybulle on a minimum contract would continue this trend.
They don’t have much flexibility remaining, but they are still heavily involved in rumors throughout the NBA. Jonathan Kuminga is the main player they have their eyes on at this moment. A sign-and-trade for him would deplete some of their depth, likely including Dalton Knecht. Thybulle could be viewed as a replacement for pieces given up in that trade to get Kuminga.
End Of My Los Angeles Lakers NBA Rumors Rant

Thybulle would be a fantastic pickup for the Lakers. The team needs an extra punch on the perimeter for defense, and he would give them an awesome chess piece. The injuries are concerning, but the Lakers shouldn’t rely on him enough to worry about that. He can come to Los Angeles and get 15-25 minutes a night as a lockdown defender.
