Liverpool’s search for defensive reinforcements have started, and they are eyeing Bologna’s defender Sam Beukema.
Reports have been circulating about how Liverpool already have their eyes on a defender. The Premier League side wants to sign Bologna’s central defender Sam Beukema. The move isn’t that surprising. Arne Slot is familiar with Beukema, since his time in the Eredivisie.
So far, it has been reported that Liverpool are looking to bolster their defensive line, and Slot sees Beukema as a solution. Slot sees the defender as a great addition to his existing squad. With the club being strong contenders in the Premier League and Champions League, they will need all the players they can get.
Slot wanting Beukema doesn’t come as a surprise, since he is already familiar with the player. In 2021, the defender joined AZ. That was a season after Slot himself left the club and joined Feyenoord.
It was previously reported that Slot has been after Beukema for a long time. He reportedly tried to sign him while he was leading Feyenoord, but the talks failed. Maybe now, Slot has a better chance of convincing Beukema to make the move to his side and leave his current club Bologna.
The chase for Beukema isn’t just through rumors and talks. The club is serious about the 26-year-old defender. It has been reported that they already approached Bologna to sign Beukema. However, the Italian club has rejected this initial bid.
Despite this, the club still has their eyes on the defender. So it won’t come as a surprise if they made another offer for him soon or in the summer. A summer deal is more possible, especially since Bologna doesn’t want to let Beukema go in the middle of the season.
As talks circulate about Liverpool wanting to sign Beukema, an important question remains: does Beukema want to join Liverpool? The answer is yes. Last October, Beukema made some hints about being open to joining the club in the future. Despite this, the defender is actually a West Ham fan. Maybe his dream to play in the Premier League will be enough to convince him to join Slot’s side.
While the team already has great defenders such as Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, they still need more. A talented player such as Beukema can make all the difference in important matches. His quality is clear whenever he plays, and he has already been performing well. The Dutchman will probably keep his performances up, if not better if he were to join Liverpool.
