Rio Ngumoha has managed to make history, becoming Liverpool’s youngest-ever FA Cup player.
In Liverpool’s match against Accrington Stanley during the FA Cup, Rio Ngumoha managed to become the club’s youngest-ever player in the competition. This comes after he was named in the team’s starting XI.
With Ngumoha playing in the match against Accrington Stanley, he managed to break a new record. He became Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in the FA Cup. Aged 16 years and 135 days old, Ngumoha broke the record that was just set recently by Trey Nyoni when he was aged 16 years and eight months.
Not only did Ngumoha break records, but he is expected to have a bright future in front of him. He joined Liverpool’s academy in the summer, and since then, it appears that Arne Slot is impressed with him. Coming from Chelsea, Ngumoha has eyes set on him, especially with his clear talent. He is already playing for the club’s Under-18s and in the UEFA Youth League.
The feature against Accrington Stanley isn’t Ngumoha’s first appearance in the senior squad. He previously was on the bench during the team’s Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Southampton. Chelsea are surely missing a talent such as that of Ngumoha, who was described by John Terry as a “top, top player.”
Ngumoha’s move from Chelsea to Liverpool has been seen as a controversial one, especially since Chelsea wanted to keep him. He was making a name for himself at his previous club, as he scored for the Under-17 Premier League cup final for Chelsea last season.
Someone with Ngumoha’s talent will probably fit in any place he goes. He has already played for England’s under-17 team. With three international appearances, the future is bright for the young player.
Arne Slot had kind words to say about Ngumoha after his official senior debut. In the post-match interview, Slot said:
I think he did well, there were a few moments where the fans could see why we think he’s a talent.
He’s really good in one-v-one situations, he’s fast and can change direction fast which he showed a bit more in the first half than the second half.
I think it’s nice to make your debut and to win and he had a few very good actions where the fans reacted as well so it was a nice and special day for him.
It looks like the future is very bright for Ngumoha with everyone already talking about him. The club probably won’t mind the fact that Chelsea banned their and Manchester United’s scouts from attending academy fixtures after Ngumoha’s exit. After all, it sounds like they were the winners at the end.
Now, Ngumoha is Liverpool’s second-youngest debutant in the club’s history. He comes after Jerome Sinclair who debuted for the club aged 16 years and six days old. The club’s fans will be looking forward to see what Ngumoha has to offer.
