The Philadelphia 76ers will officially be the destination for LeBron James as he looks to end his career on a high note. Let’s take a look at what this move means for both sides, but more importantly for Philadelphia. Does this make them the championship favorites? Can a team with this many mouths to feed win a championship?
LeBron wasn’t even on the Sixers’ radar entering NBA free agency. The first time it was even mentioned as a possibility was after the trade made to acquire Jaylen Brown. That’s when everything changed.
LeBron was tasked with a decision that came with many layers. Would he go back home and end his career where it all started with the Cleveland Cavaliers? Well, what’s a better place to retire than Miami? Or how about teaming up with fellow NBA legend Steph Curry in Golden State?
James had all of those options on the table, but he wanted one thing. He wanted to win another championship.
He views Philadelphia as the best chance for him to earn his fifth NBA title. “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.” James said via X.

LeBron fits every team for obvious reasons. He can do it all on the basketball court. With that being said, the guy in Philadelphia is just about perfect.
Some people have expressed concerns about the usage rates and the number of players who need the ball to succeed. That’s not necessarily the case.
Tyrese Maxey had one of his most successful seasons as an off-ball threat when James Harden was the point guard.
Joel Embiid isn’t going to demand the ball as much as he once did. He obviously is still an amazing scorer, but it’s best for his health if he takes a back seat.
Jaylen Brown can still be a high-volume scorer, and despite wanting to have his own team, he’s had success as the second option his entire career.
LeBron will be able to be the facilitator for all of this. He doesn’t need to go out and score 20 points a night; he can slow the game down and use his immense basketball IQ to control the offense. I’d reasonably expect him to average a career high in assists this season, reaching the double-digit mark for the second time in his career.
The 76ers, for the most part, have their roster set for the upcoming season. They currently have zero open roster spots.
They can easily create an extra spot if a move becomes available. They will likely be major threats in the buyout market if some players become available. Some players include:
The main hole in the current roster construction comes from the backup center position. As it stands, Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti are the only options when Embiid misses time. There are limited options to pursue when it comes to that position, so they may have to get creative to find an answer.
