Klay Thompson is back in the middle of NBA rumors once again as the offseason moves along. His name has been thrown into trade talks for months now, but no one has seemed to be willing to take on the salary. Thompson returning to the Golden State Warriors would be absolutely amazing, especially if LeBron James went there as well. The starting five would be filled with legendary players whom fans would rush to their TV screens to watch each night. The fit is obviously great, with the chemistry between him, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green rivaling any other trio to ever play.
The Denver Nuggets may be one of the only teams actually willing to take on the entirety of Thompson’s contract. The reason is the availability of free agent Peyton Watson via sign-and-trade. Obviously, the Nuggets wouldn’t do this one-for-one, but the other players and draft capital involved are to be discussed later. Right now, let’s just talk about the incredible potential Thompson has with Nikola Jokic as his playmaker. That would be a lethal duo, even with Thompson getting up there in age.
The Miami Heat have been thrown into the mix for Thompson a ton over the past few days. The main source of the Heat rumors stems from a potential signing of LeBron. Reports indicate that this would only be an option if they sign James and are able to secure Thompson off of a buyout. They have no interest in trading for him. Obviously, the Heat are desperate to add spacing to a roster that now features Giannis Antetokounmpo, so Thompson would automatically fit well.
Thompson is not an All-Star-level player anymore, but he definitely can still be a major contributor. His shooting touch will never go away, making him a valuable role player for the rest of his career. These three teams make a ton of sense when it comes to fit for Thompson.
