This Caleb Williams injury update will take a look at the latest news on the Chicago Bears superstar QB. Here’s a look at the injury, how well he was playing, and who fills in with Williams out.
Caleb Williams Injury Update

Williams went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury late in their week two matchup against the Vikings. He was assisted off the field by trainers before being carted to the locker room. Williams was clearly emotional, leaving the field with a towel over his face and raising his fist in the air.

The latest news from Chicago is that Williams suffered a hamstring injury that led to his departure. There have not been any further reports indicating the severity as of now. No timeline has been released.
Head Coach Ben Johnson, when speaking with the media after the game, expressed relief that it was not a knee injury for Williams. He did acknowledge the potential severity of hamstring injuries shortly after.
This is clearly a significant blow to the Bears and the hopeful season they have ahead.
UPDATE: Tom Pelissero reported on Monday morning that Williams avoided significant injury on Sunday. Chicago has not ruled him out for Monday’s week three matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chicago Bears Backup QB

The Bears will turn to Tyson Bagent to lead them if Williams need to miss time, which certainly appears to be on the table. He entered the game when Williams went down, but was unable to lead them to a victory. This loss set the Bears record at 1-1 following week two.
Bagent has some experience as a starting QB in Chicago; he started four games in 2023. The Bears went 2-2 in his starts; he threw 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions that season. He has been with the team for the past three seasons.
Caleb Williams 2026 Performances

Williams had a fantastic showing in week one against the Carolina Panthers, leading them to an incredible 59 points. They came out on top to win their first game of the season. He threw for 269 yards and reached the endzone a total of four times, two on the ground and two passing.
Williams was not having the same success against Brian Flores and the Minnesota Vikings in week two. They scored just three points with him at QB, leading to a 9-3 loss. He had just 138 yards when he went down with the hamstring injury.
