This Jayden Daniels injury update will take a look at the latest news that has been revealed about the Washington Commanders’ starting QB. The franchise QB suffered what looked like a significant elbow injury at the end of the first half of the Commanders’ week two matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
Jayden Daniels Injury Update

Jayden Daniels suffered what appeared to be an elbow injury late in the first half against the Dallas Cowboys. The injury looked very similar to the dislocated elbow he dealt with last season.

Daniels was carted off the field to the locker room during the halftime break. The Commanders trailed the Cowboys 17-10 entering the break.
Daniels missed four games with the elbow injury suffered in 2025; he then reinjured the same elbow and didn’t return that season.
If this injury turns out to be the same suffered last season, it will have a significant effect on the Commanders’ season. It will also raise concerns over the future of Daniels and that left elbow.
The latest update to come out about the injury was the Commanders officially ruling Daniels out for the remainder of the game against the Cowboys. It was confirmed to be an elbow injury.
Washington Commanders Backup QB

Marcus Mariota is the current backup quarterback for the Commanders. He will fill in for Daniels if any time is missed.
Mariota is a 12-year veteran who was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. He has started 82 games for the Titans, Falcons, and Commanders over the course of his career.
Mariota started eight games last season for Washington, going 2-6 when replacing Daniels. He has been with the franchise for two seasons.
