On the latest episode of WWE Raw, John Cena made his first appearance since the heel turn that shocked the world. What could Cena have to say after giving a low blow to his WrestleMania opponent, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes? This was a special edition from Brussels, and the audience was at maximum volume.
The crowd was all over Cena from the moment his music hit. On his way to the ring, Cena was first smacked with the “John Cena sucks,” an old wrestling tradition. Cena is drawing so much heel heat, it’s perfect. The crowd got even louder when he placed the mic down, appearing to be leaving without saying a word. After the “You sold out,” chants simmered, Cena cut his promo.
“I’m a victim,” said Cena, going on to explain how the fans are hurtful, abusive, and bullies. This is the perfect angle for Cena. Expected to be a babyface forever, he was looked up to my kids worldwide. Now, he’s attacking children wearing his merch. He went on to explain how he gave his all to the WWE and the fans for years, and nobody cared how he was, all they wanted was more.
The crowd in Brussels lost their minds at this point. They gave Cena two consecutive chants that contained the same explicative. “**** you, Cena,” and “Shut the **** up,” yelled the audience. Trying to continue talking, Cena was interrupted by somebody other than the audience this time.
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes, emerged to a huge pop. Cena’s heel turn is also the best booking for Rhodes. His run was getting stale, and now he’s in the most exciting storyline heading into WrestleMania. Rhodes told Cena to find himself before their upcoming match, as he didn’t want to wrestle a “whiney *****.”
John Cena’s heel turn is perfect in so many ways. Over the span of decades, Cena was for the people, especially the kids. The years of trust built up by WWE’s previous golden goose made the turn even better. All of Cena’s or The Rock’s segments have built up the excitement and questions, leaving fans wanting more. It will be interesting to see what happens with their faction moving forward.
