Jey Uso earned the right to face Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. He did so with an upset win at Royal Rumble. There is no doubt that Jay is over as a babyface singles star, but does that make him a good choice to win the championship at WrestleMania? There are concerns around the future Hall-of-Famer holding the workhorse championship.

Along with his brother, Jimmy, The Usos have dominated the tag-team picture for years. They also had a few different gimmicks, which all worked, helping them stay relevant in the tag picture, and with the audience. How could there be concern about such a star getting a title shot at WrestleMania?

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is also known as the workhorse championship. The short lineage is filled with workhorses and physical wrestlers. Seth Rollins was the inaugural champion and carried it so well. Damian Priest, Drew McIntyre, and now Gunther, have all held the championship. One of these things is not like the other, and Jey Uso does not match the belt. Uso is more of a sports entertainer, with plenty of sizzle, but lacks the steak.

Uso’s singles run lacks depth, mostly centered around “Yeeting,” which has wasted plenty of valuable airtime. His promos were much better as a tag team; his only angle as a singles star consists of him saying he’s an underdog, but don’t doubt him. His move set fits on a PlayStation controller: spear, frog splash, superkick, and there would still be room for a taunt. Along with the limited character and move-set, he frequents sloppy superkicks that often look unrealistic. Is getting a gimmick over worthy of a championship in itself?

End Of My WWE World Heavyweight Championship Rant

Jey Uso is a tag team legend and over as a singles star. This type of decision pops at WrestleMania but is a boring title run just weeks later. He lacks the physicality and intensity of the previous champions.
