WWE Night of Champions takes place this Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Queen of the Ring tournament finals feature on the card. It all started with four, four-way matches to determine the semi-finals. Defeating Roxanne Perez along the way, Jade Cargill is up against Asuka, who defeated Alexa Bliss. The booking will tell fans what the company is prioritizing right now – Do they reward high-end, in-ring talent, or push a new star they have heavily invested in?
She fits the strong image of a champion, but Cargill has plenty to learn about professional wrestling. Her muscles and snazzy entrance are not enough to compensate for her lack of agility and ring IQ. It would be more fitting for a champion to start on a lower rung and build up their career. A mid-card or NXT title run would do wonders for her career.
The other side of this equation features a future Hall of Famer. As confirmed per Cagematch, Asuka is an eleven-time tag, and seven-time women’s champion. That is just considering her time on the main roster. Having already paid her dues and proven her skills in other promotions, The Empress of Tomorrow first dominated NXT before the call-up. The SmackDown Hotel confirms she had a Women’s Championship run that started on April 1, 2025, and lasted 523 days. “Nobody is ready for Asuka” never rang truer, as she would relinquish the title due to injury, after the longest reign under that brand, man or woman, of any kind.
Asuka has already built her legacy, while the King and Queen of the Ring tournament has generally been used to push a superstar. However, those stars have usually proven something, but there’s no way Cargill has the experience to justify a crown and the associated title shot. She needs to learn how to call a match on the fly before WWE should consider her for a title run.
The company is pot-committed on Cargill, and is about to go all-in and watch the cards turn. The better decision is pitting Asuka against the current champion, Iyo Sky. These are the top in-ring talents on the women’s roster. WWE is taking a trip back to the 80s and 90s, in line to select the sizzle over the steak.
With the men’s finals featuring Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes, the decision was blatant weeks before this match was even announced. Certainly on different levels, but both those men have paid their dues and are name-brand talent. The crown on her superhero body will pop the crowd temporarily, but the stop-and-go matches will espose her. Considering the names of Orton, Rhodes, John Cena, and Sky, there is obviously an outlier in the options for the final spot. There are many female talents that claim to be part of a revolution, but had mid-matches in skimpy outfits. Asuka and Sky are what women’s wrestling is all about, which has lost it’s way over the past few years.
