The latest episode of WWE Raw was not only big for the King and Queen of the Ring tournament. It also continued the storyline between The Paul Heyman Guys and Penta, one of the company’s hottest and newest superstars. Faction leader Seth Rollins sent Bron Breakker to go one-on-one with the man who has Cero Miedo, with one of the company’s most dominant heels and talented baby faces set to collide.
The match was physical and fast-paced. Breakker may have looked uncomfortable working the Lucha style, but made up for it tenfold with intensity. With plenty of entertaining reversals and believable false finishes leading up to a big decision – which star gets the push?
Penta proved himself outside of WWE for years, having forgotten more than his opponent has learned, but Breakker has a new faction with Rollins, Heyman, and Bronson Reed. All members of the faction have benefited – Rollins certainly helps elevate the newer talent and has the most proven manager in history to hold his Money in the Bank briefcase. It says something about his mic skills when he does more talking than Heyman, and has proven to be one of the best workers of all time.
Deciding against the superior in-ring talent, WWE went with the home-grown sports entertainer. While both may deserve a push, there could only be one winner. The first mistake was burying one of the top faces, and the second was how they booked the pin. Having a clean finish was horrific booking – Why not have outside interference or disqualification, protecting both stars? Management has buried The Lucha Bros. since they forced Rey Fenix to lose to Chad Gable‘s new gimmick at WrestleMania.
The luchador is popular and talented enough to dig his way out, but there’s no denying the dirt the company just threw on him. His mic skills are holding him back with the predominantly English audience. Breakker is lucky to be getting such a push – Certainly more of an athlete than a wrestler.
