These WWE SmackDown results are from the September 18, 2026 stop in Corpus Christi. After defeating CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship last week, Sami Zayn was forced to defend the title in this week’s main event. WWE United States Champion Trick Williams and WWE Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne qualified for Money in the Bank, while the tag-title picture heated up between Bakusai and MFT.
Zayn retained the Undisputed WWE Championship after a chaotic main event involving Kevin Owens, CM Punk, Johnny Gargano, and Candice LeRae.
Trick Williams defeated Randy Orton and Rey Fenix to earn a spot in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki battled MFT in a non-title match that ended in chaos after Haku interfered.
Jacy Jayne defeated Jade Cargill and Alexa Bliss to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
General manager Nick Aldis opened SmackDown by bringing Zayn to the ring. It wasn’t addressed, but it was odd to see Punk’s side plates still on the belt, considering they’ve had an entire week to switch them out. The champ got the crowd riled up before getting in Aldis’ face.
Zayn demanded Aldis treat all the top stars with the same obstacles he was given, screaming for equality, when Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae interrupted. Gargano and the champ made a deal to work together last week, but they argued over the semantics.
Gargano was under the understandable impression that he’d get the first title shot. While Zayn tried to back out, Aldis cut in to advise that Punk is next in line, and that he makes the matches. Kevin Owens didn’t like the sound of that, and made his appearance in the segment.
LeRae stood up for Gargano, but Owens hit a swift Stunner to send him out of the ring and the segment. Unable to get a word in, Zayn grabbed Aldis by the collar, which clearly agitated the general manager, who announced a title match for later that evening. It’d be Zayn vs. Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The first match of SmackDown was a Money in the Bank qualifying match between “The Viper” Randy Orton, Williams, and AAA World Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix. Orton and Williams both executed powerful reversals on Fenix, while he delivered all of the entertaining high spots. The Viper reversed the cruiserweight champ into an RKO mid-splash, but was immediately struck by a Trick Shot. The US Champ picked up the victory to advance to the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki) had a non-title match against WWE World Tag Team Champions, MFT (Talla and Tama Tonga), with Haku. It was a physical back-and-forth before the match was ultimately thrown out. The referee was losing control of the match when Haku attacked Nakamura with his walking stick, and MFT hit Kyoki with their tandem finisher.
The women also had a Money in the Bank qualifier on SmackDown – this one featured Jade Cargill, Alexa Bliss, and WWE Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne. Not only did they use the overused powerbomb-superplex combo, but they also botched it, with Cargill clearly having a conversation while set up.
Cargill botched another spot, clearly missing the near fall in which she was supposed to pull the referee out of the ring to break the count. Jayne eventually pinned Bliss to advance to Money in the Bank.
It was time for the main event title match. Owens started hot, rushing Zayn to begin the match and take control of the opening minutes. They worked stiff, leading to the finish. Zayn kicked out of the best near fall to that point, after taking a Swanton Bomb.
Gargano and LeRae came to aid Zayn, which led to another exhilarating false finish. Owens appeared to have it won again when the champion’s allies put his foot on the rope. Punk surprised everyone when he appeared on the ring apron and struck the challenger with the title belt.
Zayn hit Punk with a Helleuva Kick, then delivered one to Owens. Confusion followed the finish when Owens failed to kick out after the referee’s count reached two, seemingly due to a botched spot, but the champion still retained.
After the match, Punk voiced his displeasure via finishers. Both Owens and Zayn were victims of a Go To Sleep. The same man who lost the title last week was the one who ended this show on top.

Williams joins Bron Breakker and “The Young OG” Je’Von Evans as Money in the Bank qualifiers, while Jayne joins Sol Ruca and Lola Vice. Zayn retained the Undisputed WWE Championship, but plenty of chaos surrounded the main event, leaving fans anxious for the fallout featured in next week’s WWE SmackDown results.
