These are the WWE SmackDown results from the May 1, 2026, episode. With about a week before Backlash, how would everything unfold?
Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes’ promo was interrupted by Ricky Saints. After a short verbal joust, Rhodes awarded Saints a title shot later in the night. That’s quite the surprise shine for the recent NXT star.
Jacy Jayne, with the rest of Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley and Lainey Reed), had a singles match against Charlotte Flair, accompanied by Alexa Bliss. This segment couldn’t have been more predictable, and the wrestlers weren’t putting in any extra work to make up for it. Fatal Influence had the three-on-two advantage, distracting the referee to aid in Jayne’s victory.
Fatal Influence jumped the duo after the match, only to be saved by WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, who they were seen talking with earlier in the back. All three took a single move before powdering.
Fraxiom (Axiom and Nathan Frazer) had a shot at the WWE World Tag Team Championship when they challenged R-Truth and Damian Priest. Truth is turning the tag titles into an overused comedy gimmick, and this match was no different. It’s also doing no favors for Priest’s on-screen character, which is already shaky, at best. The champs retained after a chokeslam and Razor’s Edge.
The MFTs (Talla Tonga and Solo Sikoa) rushed the ring post-match. Tonga didn’t play favorites, as all four combatants got those hands. Sikoa then grabbed a microphone to cut a promo. They’d call out “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu, who laid out the MFTs last week, but The Usos (“Big” Jim and “Main Event” Jey Uso) answered the call.
The Uso’s tried to trump Sikoa, claiming Roman Reigns will be the next one to get his hands on Fatu. Unphased, Tonga took care of them with ease. Not long after, a tag match was made official for later in the night.
It was time for the title match between Rhodes and Saints. It did give the challenger a rub, but the match was rather unimpressive. None of the false finishes were believable in this one-finisher match. Gunter blindsided the champion after his victory, before choking him out cold in the middle of the ring.
Danhausen was next up, and he went to the ring for a promo. He was quickly joined by The Miz, who appeared to be switching allies from Kit Wilson. MizHausen, however, was short-lived. Miz and Wilson stomped boots to finish the segment.
Angel jobbed to Royce Keys in a squash match. Furthermore, they botched a couple of spots, and the power moves appeared soft. Keys ran into Fatu in the back, and the two formed a pack with each other, only for the pair to get jumped by the MFTs to end the segment.
Sami Zayn, with the gingerbread man suit that Trick Williams was clowning him with, was in the ring for a promo. He’s getting so desperate that he’s begging for a reason for the quick turn of opinion from the WWE Universe.
It didn’t get any better from there. Zayn was whining about how easy it is to be Williams, and then hit an empty gingerbread man suit with a low blow. The suit must mean the world to Williams, who came to save it, as if he were rescuing a person. After the commercial break, Cathy Kelly interviewed from the trainers’ room because the gingerbread man needed medical attention.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Paige and WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella had a title match against The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend). They have to be the physically weakest tag team in history, and the fact that they booked them clean over the much oversized team is embarrassing.
The Usos versus Sikoa and Tonga was next. Everything was a build to Fatu jumping the MFTs, causing the referee to throw out the match. The Samoan Werewolf used steel steps and an announce desk as a weapon. He will challenge Reigns at Backlash.
These WWE SmackDown results included two tag-title matches, Zayn burying himself, new beef between Miz and Danhausen, and other storylines unfolding as it gets closer to Backlash on May 9, 2026. Stay tuned to Stadium Rant for the latest.
