WrestleMania 41 wrapped up this weekend. There were title changes, personal storylines, surprises, and more. Sadly, it also included these top five booking blunders.
#5 WrestleMania Blunder – The Rock Is Nowhere In Sight
For those living under a rock, John Cena successfully defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Cena joined The Rock and Travis Scott in a new faction, leading to many speculations and expectations before the match.

The Rock promised glory, so the WWE Universe looked for him at WrestleMania. There were also rumours about new members joining their faction. Scott appeared to assist in Cena’s victory, but The Rock was conspicuously absent.
Not only was The Rock not there, but nothing was learned about their faction. It could have made Rhodes look stronger while dropping the title if he faced larger odds. What does the future hold for the flagship championship?
#4 Wrestlemania Blunder – Dropping The Tag Titles To Lyra Valkyra And Becky Lynch
Valkyra teamed with a surprise return from Lynch after her scheduled partner, Bayley, was injured. This dismissible booking rendered the tag and Intercontinental belts meaningless. How can they validate this title drop to a current singles champion and a rusty returning superstar with no tag-team chemistry?

Plenty of other superstars could have used the push of a tag title match at WrestleMania. Instead, fans had to watch a legend who has lost a step. There wasn’t a younger star to team up with?
The same could be said for the Women’s WWE Intercontinental Championship, still held by its inaugural owner, Valkyra. WWE missed an opportunity to add history to a relatively new championship while simultaneously elevating new talent. She is a fighting champion who has proven to be a talented worker, but this buries talent and opportunity.
#3 WrestleMania 41 Booking Blunder – Rey Fenix Pinned
El Grande Americano was to face Rey Mysterio, but it was Rey Fenix due to injury. Fenix is an internationally renowned luchador, and he has been pinned shortly after his debut. Not only does it bury your new acquisition, but it also leaves a void where a payoff should be.

Chad Gable‘s luchador gimmick has been hilarious, but it stereotypes luchadors. He has been slipping a metal plate into his luchador mask, embarrassing luchadors. It feels like they buried their new star and Lucha Libre in one swift motion.
#2 WrestleMania Blunder – Logan Paul Pinning A.J. Styles
This was a travesty to wrestlers around the world. Logan Paul gets special treatment, with weeks to prepare between appearances, and hasn’t learned the basics before moving on to high spots. Now he pins a living legend at WrestleMania?

While Paul is a great athlete, he lacks the instinct of a wrestler. He is not at fault, but it’s still a booking blunder to disgrace the name of Styles in such a way. His online charisma isn’t translating to the wrestling ring.
#1 WrestleMania Blunder – Gunther Taps To Jey Uso
If the decision to choose Jey Uso wasn’t bad enough, they went too far in an attempt to put him over. It was a lacklustre match that didn’t showcase Gunther‘s physical beatdowns. It’s just not believable that Uso could ever hang in there with Gunther, never mind being in control for most of the match.
Everything went as predicted leading up to the match’s conclusion. Gunther worked in the occasional power move, while Uso was largely in control with sloppy superkicks and spears. The blunder of a surprise happened in the finish, with the new champ choking out the old, forcing him to tap.

This is an unnecessary blemish on Gunther’s relatively new main roster run. Someone could have helped Jey win, or WWE could have found a way to end it in a no-contest. There are plenty of ways to book a championship to look strong in a loss.
Even if they felt the need to end the match in submission, a tap-out doesn’t help anybody. They could have booked him to pass out instead of tap-out.
End Of My WrestleMania Rant
WrestleMania 41 featured a few entertaining matches, but overall, it fell short of expectations. Most of the moments were predictable, with fewer surprises than expected. Regardless, Cena’s championship heel run can’t be missed.
