There were two moments. Earlier in the same press conference, asked more generally whether fans could expect further signings, Arteta gave a real answer:
“Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That’s clear. We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else… we won’t sit still.”
Then came the specific question — “So, when’s Vini joining?” — and Arteta offered only a smirk.
In a separate exchange right at the end of the session, pressed on whether Vinícius would be arriving, he said “thank you so much” and left.
That’s the entirety of it — no yes, no no, and a room full of reporters left to interpret the silence.
Whatever Arsenal’s level of interest, the underlying profile explains why anyone would be interested.
Vinícius scored 16 goals and contributed several assists in La Liga during the 2025-26 season. This continued a run of double-digit goal contributions that’s made him one of the most productive wide forwards in Europe.
The winger’s contract at the Bernabéu runs until June 30, 2027, meaning Real Madrid aren’t under immediate pressure to sell.
However with just under two years left on the deal and no agreement yet reached on an extension, his value to any potential suitor is only likely to shift as that timeline shortens. L

Arsenal’s current left-sided options are Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, both of whom have spent this season as rotational rather than nailed-on starters.

Real Madrid, managed by José Mourinho since his return to the club in June, are reportedly offering around €20 million net per season to keep Vinícius, while his representatives are seeking closer to €30 million including bonuses.
A gap that hasn’t closed despite months of talks. That standoff is the real engine behind the transfer speculation, not anything Arsenal have done publicly.
With his contract not expiring until 2027, Real Madrid aren’t forced into a sale, but a player entering the final two years of his deal without a resolution becomes progressively easier to negotiate for as each transfer window passes.
