The theory of the Minnesota Timberwolves star continues on its course. New York Knicks power forward Karl-Anthony Towns has been the latest to fulfill this theorywhich states that when a Timberwolves star leaves the franchise, they eventually win an NBA championship.

Towns has added his name to the list. Multiple All-Star appearances, years as the face of the franchise, then a trade in 2024. Two seasons later, he’s an NBA champion with the Knicks. He spent nine seasons with Minnesota before being traded.

 Garnett became the franchise’s first true superstar, won MVP, and carried Minnesota to the Western Conference Finals. He was then traded to the Celtics in 2007 and raised the Larry O’Brien Trophy that very same season. He played 12 seasons in Minnesota before winning in Boston.

Love put up All-NBA numbers in Minnesota and became one of the league’s premier power forwards. He made three All-Star teams with Minnesota. He was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 and helped deliver a championship to the city two years later.

Wiggins arrived as the centerpiece of the Love trade, won Rookie of the Year, and posted multiple 20-point scoring seasons. After being traded to the Golden State Warriors, he became a key part of a title run in 2022. He was an All-Star starter during Golden State’s title season.

Anthony has already established himself as the their next franchise superstar. After leading the team on deep playoff runs and earning All-NBA recognition, he appears to be the next player connected to the franchise’s unusual championship trend.
