On Sunday, the women’s college basketball selection committee revealed their first top 16 teams list of the year for the 2025 NCAA Tournament March Madness. UCLA took the top overall spot despite taking their first loss of the season on Thursday night to rival USC. South Carolina, Texas, and Notre Dame rounded out the remaining number one seeds. The SEC took six of the 16 spots, as the ACC had four, the Big Ten three, the Big 12 two, and the Big East one.

To End My Top 16 Reveal Rant

Derita Dawkins, the chair of the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, had this to say: “With 29 days to go before Selection Sunday, this first reveal provided some clarity on the top teams today and also pointed to the many important matchups that will be played over the next several weeks that will greatly impact the 2025 championship field.”

These teams would host the first- and second-round games if the season ended today. However, there’s still plenty of basketball to be played before the final bracket is revealed on March 16. The next top 16 reveal will occur on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2. It will be the last of two top 16 rankings before Selection Sunday.
