The winner of The Last Time Is Now Tournament has finally been crowned. After weeks of tournament action, the chance to face John Cena at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event came down to LA Knight and Gunther. After all of the surprise appearances and upsets, which of these two men won the opportunity to face the Greatest Of All Time in his final match?
Knight started The Last Time Is Now Tournament by facing one of the biggest surprise appearances, Zach Ryder. This event was originally billed as open to all, but even that seemed to shock the WWE Universe.
Knight was scheduled to face Sheamus after his win over Shinsuke Nakamura, but The Miz stepped in due to injury. Finishing the trio of popular sports entertainers along the way, Knight also acquired the most surprising victory. He advanced to the finals after defeating “Main Event” Jey Uso.
Gunther has always been favored to win The Last Time Is Now Tournament, but he’s done wonders for some newer talents along the way. His opponents, Je’Von Evans, Carmellow Hayes, and Solo Sikoa, all looked strong, despite their loss to The Ring General.
The 16-Superstar field was narrowed to two, and it all came to a head on the latest episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Gunther was victorious over Knight, forcing him to tap out to what appeared to be a modified SFTU, one of Cena’s submissions. As the show came to an end, the Austrian alluded to a similar fate for the future Hall-of-Famer.
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., an illustrious career comes down to one final night. Will Cena go out in a blaze of glory, with a victory over the most dominant Superstar currently on the roster, or is he destined to be choked out by his challenger?
