The Tatum and Brown beef seems to have two different answers when the two are asked about each other, and some might find it hard to believe, since they shared so much success playing together. Jayson Tatum is more laid-back and keeps to himself, while Jaylen Brown is more outgoing and isn’t afraid to speak up. Each of their personalities can explain why we are getting different types of responses to the same question. They might’ve been able to get along so well in Boston because they’re both very professional, but now we’re seeing the reality behind it all.
When Did The Tatum And Brown Beef Start?
No one really knows when this “beef” all started, but many claim that it happened after Brown won Finals MVP in 2024 over Tatum. Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, while Tatum averaged 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists. Apparently, Tatum was jealous that Brown won the award over him, but this just doesn’t seem right. Another way this could have started is when Brown publicly stated that last season, the season when Tatum was out for almost the whole year, was his “favorite” of his career. This was Brown’s way of saying that he’s more suited to be a first option nonetheless.

Tatum shared in a YouTube video that he first heard about the move to Las Vegas when someone told him they traded Brown “down the street” to Philly, leaving him completely surprised. Brown then replied with a “cap” emoji, claiming that Tatum was lying about him not knowing that he was going to get traded. Tatum insisted he has “no animosity or beef or ill will towards him” and compared the internet-fueled drama to people treating it like a “boxing match” rather than basketball. Tatum also said that he texted and called Brown after the trade, and that he welcomes a direct conversation with Brown to clear up anything in the air.
Brown would respond by saying:
“Jayson’s a great guy. Like I said, great family, hell of a basketball player, hell of a PR team. There’s no beef, but it might be a little lamb chops and some gravy. He should stay ready at all times.”
Tatum hasn’t publicly come out and responded to Brown’s quote, and he most likely won’t. This feud has gotten a new headline recently, and it comes from Brian Scalabrine, who claims that Brown wanted to be traded.

Scalabrine said, “My understanding is Jaylen Brown went to the organization and had a list of demands. And it was like, “You either do this, or you trade me.” He also stated that:
“He was rooting to get traded to Milwaukee, including calling some other teammates about, ‘Hey, man, what do you think of Milwaukee? We should go there’.”
Brown’s representatives and camp are heavily denying this as false. Tatum and Brown’s relationship isn’t in the best of terms at the moment, and who knows what it’ll look like when they face each other on the court.
The Tatum and Brown beef is in a weird spot because Brown claims there’s something there, while Tatum is denying there’s anything. We’ll be able to find out how they really feel about each other once they play their first game against one another. There are some disagreements between the two stars, but we don’t know to what extent.
End Of Tatum And Brown Beef Rant
We wouldn’t expect this to turn out like Kevin Durant vs. Russell Westbrook after Durant left the Thunder in 2016, but maybe it could. Both players are amazing talents and want to prove to one another that they’re the better player. Their situation seems kind of awkward, as one is saying something different than the other. With all this being said, when they face off against each other for the first time on November tenth, everyone should get their popcorn ready for what should be a classic. Fans want more rivalries in the league, and this could be the start of a major one.
