Dominating Defense
The Gamecocks’ defense was on point, holding Texas to a season-low 50 points and 27.7% shooting from the floor. Despite being undersized, Sania Feagin had a standout performance, posting eight points, nine rebounds, and a career-high six blocks. Her defensive prowess has improved significantly over the past year, making her a solid defender and emotional rock for the team.
The Longhorns ranked No. 5, were held to their lowest-scoring half of the season, managing 22 points in the first half. South Carolina’s dominant defense limited Texas to an abysmal showing on the road in the SEC. Preseason All-American guard Madison Booker had a tough day, scoring only 7 points on 3-of-19 shooting.
Kyla Oldacare was a bright spot for Texas, leading the team with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The loss drops Texas to 16-2 overall and 3-1 in SEC play. They’ll look to bounce back against Auburn on January 16th.

South Carolina’s offense also fired on all cylinders, with Te-Hina Paopao leading the team with 11 points. The Gamecocks shot an impressive 76.9% from the field in the second quarter, helping them build a comfortable lead. Bree Hall also had a strong game, contributing seven points, four rebounds, and excellent defense.
The Gamecocks’ bench played a significant role in the win, with Joyce Edwards scoring 10 points and showcasing flashes of brilliance. Raven Johnson also performed well, playing over 30 minutes and providing her usual defensive intensity.
The End Of My South Carolina Rant
Coach Dawn Staley was impressed with her team’s focus and determination, stating they “seem to focus in when there’s a number beside our opponent.” She also praised Feagin’s breakthrough performance, saying she’s “just giving it up on both sides of the basketball.”

The win over Texas is a significant statement for the Gamecocks, who are now 4-0 in conference play. They’ll look to continue their momentum on the road against Alabama, who are currently ranked 18th.
