As the world turns, so does Kentucky basketball and its schedule. After knocking off Mississippi State Saturday, they’ll now turn their attention to the Texas A&M Aggies as they try to keep the momentum going at home.

Let’s break down the matchup.

Andrew Carr Gametime Decision

Entering Saturday night, Andrew Carr was battling back spasms, and many didn’t know if he’d give it a go. The transfer from Wake Forest toughened it out for the Cats and ended up with some key baskets in the game. He contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, and shot 5-8 from the floor – a solid performance for any Kentucky fan.

As we look ahead to the game against Texas A&M, he’s on the availability list again and is expected to play. Still, he’s going through rehab to ice down and work on his back to get it ready for tonight’s game. Carr is a crucial asset for Kentucky, especially against teams like Texas A&M, which excel in rebounding. Here’s hoping he gets healthy!

Wade Taylor Out Again

Wade Taylor is a crucial player for Texas A&M, serving as their leader, and with him missing his third straight game, it’s noticeable. In the two games without him, the Aggies have managed to win one against Oklahoma but faced a loss against Alabama.

Wade Taylor averages 15.7 points per game and 4.8 assists per game, making him a pivotal player in Buzz Williams’ backcourt for the Aggies. His ability to distribute the ball effectively has been significant, and he’s delivered some impactful performances against teams like Kentucky that have helped secure wins for Texas A&M.

While some may view his absence as an opportunity for other players, there’s a strong sentiment that everyone would prefer to compete at full strength. If Taylor can get back to health, it will certainly benefit the team in the long run.

Back To The Friendly Confines

Kentucky, Rupp Arena

After a quick two-game road trip, Kentucky is back home to face Texas A&M and Alabama in a place where Kentucky has thrived this season. Last weekend, Kentucky shot 57 percent from the field and had a rate of 48 percent from three in the win over Florida. Not to mention, Kentucky’s top 5 scorers all shoot over 30% from deep, which creates a “pick your poison” mentality when facing this offensive unit.

Another major change that’s been noticeably different is the crowd at Rupp this season. It’s been on fire. They packed the arena for the Brown game on New Year’s Eve, and three days later, when Florida rolled into town, it was more of the same. The energy of the crowd even caught the attention of the announcers, as Dan Shulman noted:

It’s been a jumpy scene this season, and rightfully so. Kentucky has welcomed the new era of Mark Pope with open arms and is embracing every single game, every moment, every play. It’s been a lot of fun this year, and even in the Duke and Gonzaga wins, the fans showed up at the neutral site games and made a difference as well.

End Of My Kentucky Rant

As the Cats progress, the challenges ahead will only intensify. This upcoming week presents a formidable stretch for the team. Following a much-needed week off, Kentucky will face an improved Vanderbilt next Saturday on the road. This matchup looks to be another tough test for the Cats as they navigate through this competitive season.

Starting the home stretch with a 2-0 week would be awesome! If they manage to go 2-1 and grab a win against either Vandy or Tennessee next week, that would really set up nicely. Let’s be real—nobody’s going to go undefeated in SEC play; it just isn’t how things work. Each week is sure to bring its own set of challenges for every team, whether at home or on the road. So, focus on winning the home games and hopefully snagging a few road wins—just like Kentucky did against Mississippi State last Saturday!
