The Italian Serie A race to win the Scudetto is one of the more compelling title races in Europe’s top five leagues this year. Many clubs in Serie A have had up-and-down seasons, but it will ultimately come down to Internazionale, Napoli, and Atalanta.
The Top Three
Coming out of the last international break of the year, Inter is on top of the league, with Napoli and Atalanta trailing by three and six points, respectively. Inter beat Atalanta 2-0 in the teams’ most recent fixture before the international break.
Internazionale
Inter has been the most formidable team in Serie A this season, but they have had slip-ups and look vulnerable at times. They have a strong squad with depth, but have dealt with injury issues, most recently with Federico Dimarco and Marcus Thuram.
A few weeks ago, they lost to Juventus in the league and Milan in the Supercoppa final.

Inter’s schedule through the end of the season isn’t easy. After the international break, they start a two-leg Coppa Italia matchup against Milan. Six days after that, they start their two-leg Champions League matchup against Bayern Munich.
Inter still has a chance to win the treble, but it will be a test of endurance through the remainder of the season.
Napoli
Napoli is currently in second place and has looked strong under Antonio Conte. Last season, they failed to qualify for a European spot and have reaped the benefits of having a less congested schedule.
Romelu Lukaku is having another strong season under Conte, with 10 goals and nine assists in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. After being on top of Serie A for a large chunk of the season, they have dropped some crucial points to Venezia and Como in recent weeks.

Napoli looks to go on a run and chase down the defending champions, Inter.
Atalanta
Atalanta has been one of the most explosive teams in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Their style of play is dazzling to watch as a neutral fan and nail-biting for their supporters. Recently, they embarrassed Juventus on their home turf 4-0, but have had bad losses to Como and Inter earlier in the season.
The strike partnership of Mateo Retegui and Ademola Lookman has been prolific. Retegui is on pace to break the single-season Serie A goalscoring record.

Atalanta has been one of the hottest teams in the last 12 months after taking down Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final. This win earned them a spot in the Champions League, where they eventually lost to Club Brugge in the Champions League Knockout Round Playoffs.
With only the Serie A title race to worry about, Atalanta will have all of their focus on chasing down Napoli and Inter for the Scudetto.
End Of My Serie A Scudetto Race Rant
It’s a three-horse race for the Serie A title between Inter, Napoli, and Atalanta. Inter is the favorite going into the last weeks of the season, but they have a fiercely congested schedule with the Champions League and Coppa Italia to worry about.
Don’t be surprised if Inter drops points in Serie A and leaves the door open for Napoli or Atalanta. It could come down to the final matchday to decide the champions of Italian football.
