Ange Postecoglou has just become Tottenham’s hero after he beat Manchester United in the Europa League final. The head coach has already talked about his plans for the future.
After Tottenham’s win, Postecoglou shared with reporters his plans for next season and whether he plans to stay. According to The Daily Mail, he said, “I’ve had such a laser focus on winning this. Whatever happens, happens. We are still building this team, it is still very young, and we need to add experience. My thought process has been trying to build a team that can be successful for a long time, but I am a manager, it is not in my hands, but it doesn’t affect me, if it did, you would have seen it.”
Postecoglou also shared that he wants to stay at the club. “I want to stay, I haven’t completed a job yet, but the moment I accepted the role, I had one thing in my head, and that was to win something. I want to build on it,” he stated.
There is no denying that Postecoglou’s winning the Europa League is an important achievement for Tottenham. This trophy marks their first in 17 years. The fans had been waiting for this one for a long time, and Postecoglou managed to make it happen.
The 1-0 result against Manchester United could have turned the other way. Postecoglou’s side, however, managed to keep their lead intact.
One thing about the head coach is that he sticks to his promises. Earlier this season, Postecoglou said that he would win trophies in his second season. He made this a reality.
Despite the Europa League win, this season was terrible for Tottenham. Throughout the entire season, people were waiting for Postecoglou to get fired, especially with the awful results they kept having.
Right now, the team is in 17th place, just one position above relegation. It wasn’t a satisfying season for the club’s fans. Now, with this win, it is possible, if not certain, that Postecoglou will stay.
After this win, Tottenham has guaranteed itself a position in next season’s Champions League. It would be unfair to let go of the one who helped them reach this stage.
This season might have been the worst in the club’s history, but they still managed to end it with a win. Such a win could be enough to renew the trust in Postecoglou and his plans for the team.
In addition, changing coaches frequently isn’t exactly a recipe for success. It makes any team unstable. The club should give Postecoglou another chance to turn things around in the upcoming season.
I, for one, am actually happy that Tottenham won the Europa League. It was about time for them to break their trophy drought, and what better way to break it than to do so in one of their worst seasons?
