What Do The Eagles Need To Fix Following Their Preseason Win?

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns for their first preseason win of the summer. There are some positives and negatives of the win to highlight.

Positives

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Browns 21-20 in an exciting back and forth game. The starters did not play on Sunday, but there were plenty of positives from the second and third-team players.

Gardner Minshew and Boston Scott looked like a force to be reckoned with. Even though Minshew is not the starting quarterback, he looked solid. Running back Boston Scott ran the ball very hard and got the Eagles in scoring position to start the game.

Philadelphia also saw solid production from Kenneth Gainwell at running back. Receivers Devon Allen and Deon Cain made big plays as well.

Negatives

On Sunday, the Birds showed there is still work to do before the 2022 season.

Philadelphia’s defense struggled in the early going which made things look very easy for Cleveland’s quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs was a star in college and was known for being a mobile QB. He showed it against Philadelphia and the defense failed to slow him down.

Most of all, the Eagles need to clean up the penalties. The Eagles were penalized six times for 50 yards. Several of these penalties prevented Philadelphia’s defense from getting off the field on third down.

The Eagles did not struggle with penalties in the first preseason game against the Jets, but it is something to work on. Hopefully the Eagles address this to prevent opposing teams from getting second chances on the field once the season begins.

Looking Ahead

I am glad the Eagles won the game. There were plenty of good things on display, but there are a couple things they need to fix.

The Eagles will close out the preseason against the Miami Dolphins in South Florida on August 27th. After that, they will get time off before they get ready for the season opener against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on September 11th.

Who will make the final roster before the regular season? I am pretty confident that head coach Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman will pick the right players and send the players home who don’t deserve a roster spot.
