Trading Places: Panthers Deal Star WR?

After the Panthers fired Matt Rhule, rumor has it that teams are showing interest in DJ Moore, could you the Panthers move the former Maryland man?

According to Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports HQ, the top five landing spots for D.J. Moore are the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants, the Green Bay Packers, and the Los Angeles Rams.

D.J Moore’s history with the Panthers

Moore is a fifth-year vet and has been the Panther’s top receiver, posting 1,000 yards in his last three years. Moore’s the youngest receiver to host three back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.

He posted these numbers with the help of different quarterbacks along the way, including Cameron Newton, Sam Darnold, P.J. Walker, Kyle Allen, and Teddy Bridgewater, QB, who is the backup QB for the Miami Dolphins.

The Panther’s star wideout receiver hasn’t had much success this year. His targets are significantly low, however, they are progressing. Moore hasn’t been able to do much, which could frustrate him, ultimately leading him to want a trade.

With little to no production, Moore has 17 catches for 197 yards and one touchdown through five games.

Moore’s touchdown dependency still low

His touchdowns have been significantly low since the Panthers drafted him. Moore has yet to have more than four touchdowns in his first five seasons, which harms him from being a top-tier receiver.

Although it harms his value, Moore hasn’t worked with the best quarterbacks, if we’re talking about accuracy. Moore’s strongest QB could arguably be former NFL MVP, Cam Newton.

With Mayfield sidelined for two to six weeks, Moore hopes his connection with QB Walker will get him trending in the right direction against a Los Angeles Rams dealing with injuries on the defensive side.

What to expect with P.J and D.J duo?

Last week Moore caught four of eight receptions for 59 yards in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.

The P.J. and D.J. sensation could have huge moments and explosive plays which are something Moore hasn’t been able to do all season. https://twitter.com/panthers/status/1330578060127723522?s=46&t=2Z2N50cYWLtcOThI_Mz0vQ

If the duo can have one explosive play, momentum can swing in their favor.

Potential Landing Spots

With Rashad Bateman, WR, of the Baltimore Ravens on the sidelines, it would make sense if the Ravens traded for Moore. Lamar Jackson, QB, the Baltimore Ravens, hasn’t had a true no. 1 wide receiver in his time with them. D.J. Moore could fill that void for the Ravens and help a team who leans more on the ground game.

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t seem like an ideal spot for Moore. A lot is going on with the wide receiver core, and it’s busy. With the Chief’s lineup of receivers, you don’t know who’s the WR1.

Injuries add insult to injury for the Giant’s receiving core. The Panthers wideout could potentially be explosive with Daniel Jones and co. and push the Giants to be a true contender in the NFC.

Although Aaron Rodgers, QB, loves a deep-threat receiver, the Green Bay Packers are figuring out their woes with the wide receiver position with Allen Lazard, Randall Cobbs & rookies, Romeo Dobbs, and Christian Watson. The receiving corp is young and has a lot of figuring out to do, they could use someone who can make plays in big moments. Moore runs a 4.42, he can get open.

Not knowing the status of Odell Beckham Jr, WR, the Los Angeles Rams would be a great fit for the wideout. Allen Robinson II has been quiet and Matthew Stafford needs a solid no. 2 receiver to help assist Cooper Kupp.

The Panthers haven’t said anything about the trade rumors. It’s relatively quiet in Charlotte.
