Three New York Rangers Who Stood Out In Game One Against The Hurricanes
What a way to start the second round of the NHL Playoffs. It has been a while since the New York Rangers played a game after they swept the Washington Capitals Kenny Omega style. I wondered how they would look, and boy, did they play well. They defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in Game One, 4-3.
Many players stood out for the Blueshirts, but three stood out the most out of the bunch.
3. Vincent Trocheck Contributes On The Power Play
A few months ago, I called Trocheck's contract one of the worst on the Rangers payroll. I regret saying that, as he has been a phenomenal part of this Rangers team. Especially tonight on the powerplay when he scored the game's third goal for the Blueshirts.
I want Trocheck to continue making me eat my words with his play, as it has been an incredible sight.
2. Chris Kreider Is An Assist King
Is it possible for a player's number to be retired while they are playing with the franchise? It's all but obvious that Chris Kreider's number will eventually rise in Madison Square Garden. Games like tonight are why, as he led the Rangers in assists. He helped with Zibanejad's powerplay goal and Trocheck's goal.
Kreider is such a fantastic player, and hopefully, he will keep playing this way, including on the power play.
1. Mika Zibanejad Dominates
I mean, do I have to explain to myself why Mika Zibanejad is on this list? He dominated the entire game, especially in the first period. He scored two goals and one assist, all in the first period. He got this team off to a great start, scoring the game's first goal and even a power play goal.
Zibanejad was amazing on offense all period. I wish he could replicate the level of play in the second and third periods, but he was unstoppable in Period one. His standout performance in this period can't be ignored.
