Texans Sign One of the Best Tight End Prospects Ever

Breaking News: The Houston Texans are signing former 1st round pick, Tight End O.J. Howard.

The Deal comes after Howard worked out for Houston on Thursday. After what must have been a strong workout and physical, Howard and the Texans struck the deal only a few hours later.

Howard visited with the Bengals on Wednesday and was expected to sign there, but he had a change of heart that caused him to give the Texans a try, clearly there was something he liked in Houston as he ended up signing there.

O.J. Howard was selected 19th Overall in the 2017 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s been a productive player, but injuries have held him back significantly. His best year was in 2018, where he recorded 565 yards in just 8 starts, miraculous numbers for a tight end. But he progressively slowed down after that. The only full season the 27 year-old has played was last year in 2021. However with Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate, Howard found himself pushed to the back of a crowded tight end room, as he recorded a snap count of just 31 percent, the lowest of his five year career.

O.J. hoped to have a fresh start in Buffalo as he signed a one year 3.5 million dollar deal with the Bills, however after a stellar camp but disappointing preseason, the Bills felt that keeping Howard wasn’t in the best interest of the team. The move was shocking to many NFL fans as Howard was seen as one of the best tight ends available in free agency when he chose the Bills.

The Texans aren’t complaining though, as adding Howard will be a significant boost to the tight end core, and it will be very interesting to see how things play out between Howard and current starter Brevin Jordan.
