A Super Bowl Champion The Patriots Should Avoid In 2022 & Beyond.

You’re about to read why, although most Patriots fans want Super bowl champion Odell Beckham Jr, he should not come to New England. The things most people ignore when they talk about Beckham to the Pats.

Super Bowl Champion Damaging & Unbecoming

Beckham busted onto the scene with a one-handed catch almost a decade ago. His first three seasons made him look like he was on the way to the hall of fame, but the Giants eventually shipped Odell to the Browns after five seasons. Then, almost two and a half seasons later, Odell was released by the Browns.

Odell had the chance to sign with the playoff-bound New England Patriots in 2021 and would’ve been the clear number one but opted to be a depth piece for the Los Angeles Rams because he didn’t want to play for the Pats without Brady. And just maybe because he did not want to put in the work.

His Comments Show He Didn’t Want To Be A Patriot.

Beckham said, “Very. Very, very, very, I don’t think I joked with [Belichick] on the phone, but I was like, ‘You know, if this was three years ago, it would’ve been ideal.’ Because Tom is one of the, he’s one of my favorite.” https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/odell-beckham-jr-would-have-signed-with-patriots-tom-brady/
He continued, “For a guy, coach, like Bill Belichick, who I’ve admired for years and I’ve seen and just always was like, ‘Man, one day I’m gonna play for Bill Belichick,’ for him to call me, to be able to just sit down on the phone with him and talk football, I mean, it’s like, what more could you ask for? So I was very close, that was one of the teams that was in there. But I felt like this was home. I felt like this was right.” https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/odell-beckham-jr-would-have-signed-with-patriots-tom-brady/

That’s a polite way of saying thanks but no thanks to play for the Patriots and with Mac Jones. Belichick isn’t enough to bring him to New England with a playoff team.

A History Of Injuries

Odell Beckham jr has had 16 injuries since joining the NFL. He has had two ACL tears, three hamstring injuries, and at least two hip injuries. The guy’s lower body is fragile. He hasn’t started an entire season since 2016 and has missed 27 games from 2017 to 2021.

Beckham is currently recovering from ACL surgery and is not expected to be ready to play until at least Thanksgiving. Making it not worth signing him by any NFL team for a while, and with information still to come, it might not be worth signing him.

See the complete list of his injuries over at Draft Sharks. Link here and see for yourself.

His Production Is Dropping.

OBJ averaged 85.4 yards a game in 2016. On average, yards per game in the five seasons after that were 75.5, 87.7, 64.7, 45.6, and 38.4 last season where he played in 14 games. In 2017 and 2018, Beckham averaged a catch rate of over 60 percent. His previous three seasons have been in the mid to lower 50s.

His Name Demands Money.

The Rams paid Odell $4.75 million to play for half a season. Beckham has been commanding eight-digit cap numbers since 2019. Odell’s stats were in between Antonio Brown and Robbie Anderson. Those players were only paid a little over three million dollars in 2021.

Nelson Agholor had 50 yards and two touchdowns less than OBJ in 2021, and fans think he’s way overpaid, making $14 million in 2022. So why would it be okay to pay Odell that kind of money for the same stats? And now that he has his ring, money is all he’s going to care about.

Fans have been wrong before

The feeling of having him join the Patriots is a lot like when fans dreamed of and begged for Dez Bryant and Julio Jones to join the Patriots. Instead, Bryant signed with the Saints and was injured almost immediately. And Julio only played ten games for the Titans in 2021 and was a shell of himself.

Fans dream of the subsequent Randy Moss-type signing, but this is what fans should expect if the Patriots sign Odell. And then they’ll blame Belichick instead of owning their desire for him to sign the receiver. Sometimes we must stick to the Mantra ‘In Bill we trust!’
