(12-1) Eagles Stock Report After Dominating Win Over (7-5-1) Giants

Week 14 was another week and another dominant win in the books for the Philadelphia Eagles. Here is Philadelphia’s stock report after their 48-22 victory over a division rival this past Sunday.

Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts trends up after another outstanding performance this past Sunday. The former University of Alabama and University of Oklahoma quarterback showcased elite-level passing and rushing abilities en route to a 48-22 beatdown against the New York Giants in week 14. Hurts completed 21 of 31 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns, and zero interceptions through the air.

The 24-year-old gunslinger connected with nine different receivers throughout the game, spreading the wealth around to his teammates on what was a cold, rainy afternoon at The Meadowlands. Though the Giants came into the game banged up in the secondary, Hurts carved up the Giants defense, making decisive throws when he needed to and willing his team to victory.

In addition to his greatness through the air, Hurts also made several plays with his legs throughout the game. In total, Hurts finished with 77 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown against a New York defense that struggled to contain the MVP frontrunner. Hurts made history on the ground during the win as well. He became the second quarterback in NFL history to rush for 10-plus rushing touchdowns in multiple seasons.

Furthermore, Hurts became the first quarterback in league history to do it in back-to-back seasons. There’s no doubt across the league about who would win the Most Valuable Player award if the season ended today.

As the week 14 chapter ends, Hurts has compiled a “Madden-like” season from a statistical standpoint while leading his team to the best record in the NFL. Hurts has helped the Eagles with his consistent play week after week, and in doing so, the offense leads the league in scoring (386), total touchdowns (50), rushing touchdowns (27), and more.

There’s more history that Hurts and his teammates made on Sunday. As far as history goes, Hurts, running back Miles Sanders, and wide receiver A.J. Brown became the first trio in Philadelphia Eagles history with 10-plus touchdowns, either rushing or receiving, in a single season. Look for the electric quarterback to continue his hot streak as Philadelphia hosts the Chicago Bears this Sunday.

Trending Up – Running Back Miles Sanders

Another Eagles offensive player that’s trending up is Running back Miles Sanders. Sanders rumbled and stumbled to a 144-yard, two-touchdown performance on 17 carries this past Sunday. The Eagles’ lead back crossed the preverbal 1,000-yard mark in the week 14 win over the Giants. A 2019 second-round draft pick of Philadelphia, Sanders has achieved his first-ever 1,000-yard season in his career. He now sits among the top five in the league in rushing yards across the entire NFL.

After failing to record a single rushing touchdown during the 2021 season, Sanders has crossed the pylon 11 times thus far in 2022. With his two scores in week 14, Sanders crossed double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career on Sunday. Sanders is tied for third in league with those 11 rushing touchdowns through week 14.

In a contract year, the former Penn State Nittany Lion continues his impressive 2022 campaign. Many of the previous issues that have plagued Sanders in past seasons have all but vanished. Whether it be nagging lower body injuries, fumbling in critical situations, or failures in pass protection, all of Sanders’ downfalls have all but disappeared in 2022. Sanders enters week 15 with zero fumbles on 204 carries.

The zero fumbles are the lowest of his career in Philadelphia, while the 204 carries are the highest he’s ever accumulated in a single season in the NFL. The 25-year-old ball carrier has appeared in all of the team’s 13 games this year. That feat is something Sanders has failed to do in the previous two seasons. Pass protection has seen an uptick in improvement for Sanders, too.

With this continued effort from Sanders throughout the rest of the year, it isn’t a longshot to think Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman will bring Sanders back via contract extension. With the free agent market for running back expected to run rampant this offseason, Sanders will likely cash in with his impressive numbers in 2022. Sanders looks to continue his fantastic 2022 season with another monstrous performance against the Bears. Chicago’s porous run defense ranks 27th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game and dead last in the NFL in rushing touchdowns allowed per game.

Trending Up – Right Tackle Lane Johnson

Often overlooked and undervalued, Eagles Right Tackle Lane Johnson had yet another dominant performance this past Sunday. The former first-round pick out of the University of Oklahoma, Johnson made a bit of history in the win over the Giants. Johnson now holds the NFL record for consecutive games without allowing a sack at 26. The 32-year-old offensive lineman hasn’t allowed a sack since week 11 of the 2020 season.

This Philadelphia Eagles offensive line has ushered the previously mentioned Sanders into stardom in 2022. Philly’s rushing attack remains among the best in the league, and Johnson certainly adds to that. Elite-level talent like Johnson are few and far between, and there’s no doubt he’s trending up after another unstoppable performance in a stellar 2022. Look for the six-foot-six Johnson to play this week following a late exit from Sunday’s game with an abdominal injury.

Trending Up – Defensive End Brandon Graham

As we switch to defense, look no further than veteran Defensive End Brandon Graham. Graham, 34, finished Sunday’s game with four tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble. Those impressive numbers earned the former first-round pick out of Michigan NFC Defensive Player of the Weeks honors in week 14. Graham notched his second NFCDPOW award of the season, having won the award in week three, too. His three sacks against the Giants on Sunday were Graham’s highest in a game this season, which now totals eight and a half on the year.

Graham also reached his highest sack total in a season since 2019. With four games remaining on the schedule for Philadelphia, it is not outside the realm of possibility to think that Graham cannot eclipse his single-season career high in sacks, 9.5, which he totaled back in 2017.

While the addition of premier pass-rusher Haason Reddick coupled with a devastating injury suffered last season, many thought Graham would take a back seat in the defensive end rotation for Philadelphia. Instead, Graham has become an integral part of Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s pass-rushing machine. A leader both on and off the field, look for Graham to continue his glorious comeback season against a Bears offensive line that is mediocre at best.

Trending Down – Safety K’Von Wallace

While much of the Philadelphia Eagles roster remains intact, safety has been an issue. Eagles Safety K’Von Wallace was thrust into action on Sunday following an injury to backup Reed Blankenship. While Wallace played decent enough to get the job done, it’s clear the team was looking elsewhere for reinforcements amid a rash of injuries at the position. In turn, Philadelphia signed veteran safety Anthony Harris to its active roster on Tuesday.

Harris previously spent the 2021 and the 2022 preseason with Philadelphia. Safety Marcus Epps will continue to operate one side of the field, and Harris could now occupy the other. Wallace seems to be nothing more than a depth piece at this point in the season and therefore trends down heading into week 15 action.

In Conclusion

No team in the NFL is as hot as the Philadelphia Eagles. The team has outscored its opponents 123-65 in its last three games. They also sit atop the league in turnover margin at +14. Hurts continues to showcase his elite-level talent both through the air and on the ground. Sanders is the perfect complement to the passing game, racking up necessary yards on the ground while protecting the football. Johnson anchors the right side of the offensive line and allows next to nothing to get by him. Graham looks to continue to feast on weaker offensive lines with consistent and relentless pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Collectively, this Eagles roster is loaded from top to bottom. As week 15 approaches against another NFC opponent, look for Philadelphia to remain the juggernaut it has become in 2022. A high-octane offense, a structurally sound defense, and an improving special teams unit should spell continued success for the Eagles, not only this week but in all remaining regular season games this year.
