The Philadelphia Flyers and GM Danny Briere have been very active this offseason. They inquired about the availability of superstars on the trade market and offered a historic offer sheet to Leo Carlsson that was eventually matched. The main focus, however, was to keep their two major RFAs around. They reached agreements on contract extensions with Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysds this week.
Trevor Zegras Contract Extension (4 x $9.125M)

Zegras revitalized his career with the Flyers this past season. He was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks last offseason for a very light price. He outperformed this trade package by a very wide margin. He had a career-high 67 points in his first season in Philly. This contract is a little bit pricier than anticipated, but he is well worth it. A great deal that was needed to get done by Briere, no complaints.
Grade: B+
Jamie Drysdale Contract Extension (4 x $6.5M)

Drysdale has continued to improve his game every single season. The next step will be developing into a true QB on the power play. The contract he got is an absolute steal, especially after the contracts that were recently handed out to defenseman across the NHL. A $6.5 million AAV is under what was expected before this deal was signed. Briere did a fantastic job here once again, couldn’t be much better.
Grade: A
What’s Next For The Philadelphia Flyers?

The Flyers may not be done this offseason, even after signing these extensions. They will still be aggressive in the market for major players to improve this roster. If nothing materializes, Briere has not been shy about running it back with no major additions.
End Of My Philadelphia Flyers NHL Rant
The Flyers will continue pursuing big-time names and superstar players as they look to continue improving this young roster. Establishing the young core with Zegras and Drysdale in the middle was a no-brainer for Briere. Great job by the Philadelphia front office.
