NFL Week Eight is around the corner, and we have incredible matchups ahead. It features a battle between two elite quarterbacks, a divisional showdown, and a classic strength-on-strength scenario. Let’s dive right into it.
Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to make his return from injury. For Ravens fans, his return couldn’t come at a better time. The team has sputtered the last two weeks and currently sits at 4-3.
A loss this week would move Baltimore to 4-4 and last in the tightly contested AFC North. It would truly be an uphill battle the rest of the way. Avoiding that scenario won’t be easy, as they will be heading to Buffalo to take on Josh Allen and company.
The Buffalo Bills are 5-1 and are coming off a bye week. They have a 1.5-game lead over the New England Patriots in the AFC East. A loss for them doesn’t put their playoff hopes in jeopardy, as it does for Baltimore.
That, however, doesn’t mean a win becomes meaningless. They have a real shot to get the top seed in the AFC for the first time in Allen’s career. A win here would put them at 6-1 and potentially at first place in the AFC, depending on whether the Kansas City Chiefs win or lose.
There’s a lot at stake for both teams. This is a pivotal game for Baltimore, while Buffalo has an opportunity to strengthen its pursuit of the AFC’s top seed. These matchups never fail to deliver.
The Bills have won the last two matchups by a combined three points. They won 27-25 in the 2025 Divisional Round and then 41-40 in Week One of the season after. This is the first NFL Week Eight matchup to look out for. Who prevails?
Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos

There’s nothing better than a divisional showdown between two evenly matched teams. The 5-2 Denver Broncos will be looking to avenge their 31-10 Week One loss as the 5-1 Chiefs come to town. This feels like the most even matchup between these two teams in a decade.
In 2016, Denver and Kansas City clashed in a Week 12 matchup where both teams were 7-3. It ended up being a closely contested game as the Chiefs won 30-27 with 0:00 left in overtime. After that, the competitive balance of the rivalry largely disappeared.
From that point on till the end of the 2024 season, the Chiefs won 15 of 17 matchups and were the class of the AFC West. They were a dynasty that won three Super Bowls in that span, while the Broncos missed the playoffs for eight consecutive years due to bad QB play.
Then in 2025, Denver was elite, but KC had the season from hell. The Broncos swept the Chiefs in the 2025 season as they went 14-3, while Mahomes and company went 6-11, and he tore his ACL.
2026 sees both teams being evenly matched for the first time since the 2016 game. There’s a lot at stake. If Denver wins, the AFC West will be a dogfight for the rest of the year.
If Kansas City wins, they will be in the driver’s seat for the division and can set their sights on the top seed like Buffalo. The Broncos, meanwhile, would be in a fight for a wild-card spot. This is the second NFL Week Eight matchup to keep a close eye on. Does Denver get revenge, or does Kansas City complete the sweep?
Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions

This is the classic strength-on-strength matchup. The Minnesota Vikings have the best scoring defense, allowing just 12.3 points per game. The Detroit Lions have the second-best scoring offense, putting up 30.7 points per game. One side has to concede in this matchup.
At the moment, the Vikings are 6-0 and sit atop the division. The Lions are 4-2 and sit in third place in the North. It’s a similar situation to the Broncos and Chiefs.
If Detroit wins, Minnesota falls to 6-1, and the rest of the division sits at five wins or better. It would become a real dogfight. If the Vikings win, they will have a cushion at 7-0 as they will be two games ahead of the second-place Chicago Bears. Not only that, they will have beaten each NFC North team.
In addition to better placement in the standings, Minnesota would begin to garner more respect nationally. At the moment, even at 6-0, many find their play style to be unsustainable. People wonder if they can continue to ride a dominant defense without offensive production, as that unit ranks just 24th in scoring.
However Minnesota gets it done, beating an offense of Detroit’s caliber would strengthen the argument that the Vikings are legitimate contenders. A win in any form would turn some media heads. For the Lions, it’s about proving that last year was a blip.
Detroit was in the NFC Championship in 2023, then went 15-2 the next year and flamed out in round one. Then in 2025, they missed the playoffs entirely as they went 9-8. A win here would reinforce the idea that Detroit’s 2025 season was a setback rather than the beginning of a decline.
Another divisional matchup is in the cards for us, and this one features two opposites ready to battle. It is the third NFL Week Eight matchup to look forward to. Who comes out on top?
End Of My NFL Week Eight Rant

NFL Week Eight has some incredible matchups on the table for the fans. A set of divisional heavyweight fights, and then an elite quarterback matchup. It can be a good indicator of where teams will end up in the standings.
Another NFL Week Eight matchup to look forward to that wasn’t mentioned above is the Monday night game. The Chicago Bears will go on the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks. It’ll be interesting to see if Caleb Williams has any answers for that vaunted Seahawks defense.
Williams’ 2024 draft class peers haven’t fared well against that Seattle defense. Bo Nix mustered up just 107 yards, and Drake Maye threw three interceptions. That defense also gave Patrick Mahomes a nightmare game just last week.
Between the divisional implications, Lamar Jackson’s anticipated return, and several elite defenses facing major tests, Week Eight has the potential to reshape both conference races.
