The number of teams in the NFL that make sense for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to sign with is dwindling. His favorite WR1 has already moved on, and he didn’t make a good impression on the league with the Jets. Average stats combined with the ego and drama that come with Rodgers; it will take a desperate team to take on the 41-year-old.

NFL Quarterback Carousel

The list used to be just a little longer. Quarterback Sam Darnold has filled the opening for the Seahawks, while Justin Fields signed for the Jets. The Las Vegas Raiders have gone with Geno Smith. It raises the question, where could Rodgers possibly go?

There are rumors that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the best and most likely fit. They lost their top two quarterbacks to free agency and are unlikely to address the need in the upcoming draft. Signing Rodgers would be a terrible decision for the Steelers. Sure, quarterback Russell Wilson is out there, but Rodgers is lost in space. His ego and lack of accountability are concerning.

Wilson’s quarterback rating was 95.6 last season, a clip Rodgers has not surpassed since 2021. Still listed as a free agent, Wilson also has a history with the Steelers’ newest receiver, D.K. Metcalf, as they played in Seattle together. Wilson is better, has less baggage, and would likely take less than Rodgers. Some other teams that need a quarterback include the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and the New York Giants.

End Of My NFL Quarterback Rumors Rant

One or both of the Titans and Giants are expected to look toward the draft, and Cleveland is a mess with a lot of money tied up. Minnesota could use a short-term fix until their young quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, is ready to go, making Rodgers a potential fit. It’s out of character for the Steelers to be so desperate, but they have not had a franchise QB since Ben Roethlisberger. Whichever of the Titans and Giants don’t get a quarterback in the draft could look to pick him up if they don’t wait too long. In a perfect world, the Steelers are looking long-term, but the options available may make them desperate enough to look short-term.
