NBA trade grades are back after a slight down period in the NBA offseason. All-Defensive wing Lu Dort was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade. Former first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. The Oklahoma City Thunder received three second-round picks in return.
The Hawks got the best player in the deal in Dort. The defensive duo he now forms with Dyson Daniels will give teams trouble on the perimeter. They will need shooting from the guys surrounding these two, which their current projected lineup does feature. Ryan Nembhard was also sent to Atlanta in this trade. Overall, a great trade as they reshape their roster into a more defensive oriented mindset. Giving up on Risacher so soon limits the grade, but the Hawks definitely got better this year.
Grade: B+
The Mavericks getting Risacher for Nembhard is an awesome deal for them. They get some great upside and potential for someone who was in the backend of the roster. If it doesn’t work out, whatever, you didn’t give up anything. Dallas will now likely need to look for another trade as their roster is building up with too many players. Look for potential trade rumors for Daniel Gafford to start getting louder. Klay Thompson may be another name to monitor as they round out their roster.
Grade: A
The Thunder gave up the best player and didn’t receive anything of immediate value in return. That in itself will take the grade down, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it was a “bad” trade. They needed to get under the second apron and received three more picks in their efforts to do so. Wouldn’t say this trade is a win, but it’s definitely not as bad as it initially reads on paper.
Grade: C
This trade will be beneficial for all teams involved when looking at the bigger picture. The Hawks continue their roster overhaul, the Thunder get under the third apron, and the Mavericks get another young piece for their soft rebuild.
