It is no secret that the Miami Dolphins are going to be bad in 2026. There is very little to look forward to as the team enters a full-blown rebuild.
They have traded their best players and committed to a new era of football in Miami. As it currently stands, they have very few pillars that could help kickstart this youth movement.
The one that stands out the most is wide receiver Chris Bell, a rookie that the Dolphins drafted in the third round in the 2026 NFL draft.
Let’s take a further look at Bell, a name that the Dolphins, and potentially the entire NFL, should get very used to.
Bell is a WR out of Louisville who has some of the best physical attributes you could wish for from the position. He didn’t undergo testing during the predraft process due to an ACL injury that affected last season.
Bell stands at 6’2, 220 lbs. If he was able to participate in the combine, his testing results would have likely pushed him way up draft boards.
He played four seasons at Louisville, achieving over 2,000 receiving yards in 47 games played.
Now, Bell has officially been cleared for football activities and has been participating in training camp with the Dolphins. He played in the team’s final preseason game, finishing with two receptions for 22 yards. This included an 18-yard catch in the first quarter.
The Dolphins have expressed optimism that he will suit up in their week one game against the Las Vegas Raiders. This would mark a return to the field roughly nine months after his surgery in December of 2025.
The Dolphins have a receiver room that could not be any worse in terms of overall talent. They kept seven wideouts on the 53-man roster, and just three of them have NFL experience.
The veteran of the group is 26-year-old Jalen Tolbert, who Miami signed away from the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. He has 1,093 receiving yards in his NFL career, with 610 of those yards coming in 2024.
Malik Washington is a wildcard for this Dolphins team. He has shown flashes over his two seasons with the team, but he hasn’t really gotten the opportunity. He will certainly have it this year.
Caleb Douglas joins Bell as one of the rookies with the biggest roles on this Miami team. Douglas was also a third-round pick, drafted a few selections before Bell.
That’s it.
Those are all the receivers expected to have a role in the offense this season. There is not a single proven player or veteran to help Malik Willis adjust to Miami.
Bell has an opportunity to surprise a lot of people during his rookie season. Prior to his injury, he was a candidate to sneak into the first round of the NFL draft.
His talent and skill set perfectly suit Malik Willis and the Dolphins. He doesn’t have to rely on the QB to make special plays. He does his best work in open space. Bell’s primary weapon in college was his ability to gain yards after catch, and he’s set up to do that in Miami.
Willis saw a majority of his success with the Green Bay Packers, where they utilized him as an efficient passer who only took shots when needed.
Bell fits this style beautifully, and he really could be someone who shocks a lot of people with how good he really is. I wouldn’t be shocked if his name is brought up when discussing offensive rookie of the year at the end of his rookie campaign. He may have the most opportunities to do damage among any rookie.
