JuJu Watkins’ injury is a devastating blow to USC’s chances in the NCAA Tournament. The star sophomore guard suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury in the first quarter of their second-round game against Mississippi State. Watkins was carried off the court and didn’t return, leaving her team and fans in shock.

Despite her absence, USC managed to secure a 96-59 win over Mississippi State, advancing to the Sweet 16 where they’ll face Kansas State. However, Watkins’ injury has significantly impacted the team’s prospects, as she’s a crucial player averaging 24.6 points, 7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game.
The injury has also sparked an outpouring of support from the college basketball community, with players like Angel Reese sending heartfelt messages. As USC moves forward without their star player, they’ll rely on teammates like Kiki Iriafen, who stepped up with a record-breaking 36 points in the win over Mississippi State.
Tensions ran high after USC’s 96-59 win over Mississippi State, with the crowd booing the Mississippi State players for the remainder of the game after JuJu Watkins’ season-ending knee injury. The booing was sparked by the crowd’s perception that Mississippi State was responsible for Watkins’ injury.

The tension carried over to the postgame handshake line, where emotions boiled over. The scene was intense, with some USC players appearing to exchange heated words with Mississippi State players.
The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with some fans defending USC’s reaction and others condemning it as unsportsmanlike. Regardless, the incident has put a damper on what was otherwise a dominant performance by USC.
To End My Juju Watkins Rant
USC’s outlook for the Sweet 16 has taken a hit with the season-ending injury to star player JuJu Watkins. Despite this significant loss, USC still has a talented roster, including 6’3 senior Kiki Iriafen, who is averaging 18.0 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds. As well as the number one recruiting class from last year.

The Trojans will face fifth-seeded Kansas State in the Sweet 16 on Saturday. While USC’s chances of advancing to the Elite Eight have undoubtedly taken a hit, the team’s depth and talent will still make them a formidable opponent. However, it’s clear that Juju Watkins’ absence will be deeply felt, and the Trojans will need to rely on their supporting cast to step up and fill the void.
