Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is closer more than ever to leaving the club and joining Real Madrid.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool’s Arne Slot tried to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay and renew his contract. The coach didn’t manage to change the right-back’s mind, though.
Since Alexander-Arnold’s contract is nearing its end, he can negotiate with any team he likes to join in the summer. It seems that he already has made up his mind on his next destination.
An exclusive source told Caught Offside that Slot tried everything to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay.
The coach apparently talked about the possibility of Alexander-Arnold becoming one of the club’s legends if he stayed.
Slot also hinted at the possibility of the England international becoming Liverpool’s captain. All of this didn’t change Alexander-Arnold’s mind.
According to the report, Alexander-Arnold’s negotiations with Real Madrid are 99% done. It is becoming more likely that he will join Madrid on a free transfer.
Despite interest from clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Alexander-Arnold plans to join Real Madrid. He is, apparently, preferring Madrid to other clubs.
Alexander-Arnold’s near exit is a huge blow for Liverpool. His departure won’t just affect the team, but it will disappoint all of the club’s fans who grew to love him since he joined the club at a young age.
Alexander-Arnold has been essential for them in the last couple of years even before Slot came. Now, the coach can easily realize that Alexander-Arnold leaving will ruin his plans.
Soccer is an emotional sport (like almost all sports). The fans loving the players is a huge part of the game, and sometimes it is better to choose love over money.
Even if Real Madrid were to offer Alexander-Arnold more than Liverpool, he should remain at his boyhood club.
Some might argue that he is allowed to chase glory, but the Reds were having a great season under Slot’s leadership. Who can say that next season won’t be better?
If it is true and Liverpool already lost Alexander-Arnold, they have to act quickly. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are yet to renew their contracts as well. If the club lost these two players too, it would be hard to imagine them recovering from the blow.
I hope that Liverpool can find a way out of this situation. They have to start looking for a replacement, and they should try to keep Salah and Van Dijk too. If that didn’t happen, then the team will need prayers.
