Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are set to face off in the Champions League, and Luis Enrique had only good things to say about Arne Slot’s side.
As Liverpool and PSG’s fans wait patiently for their clash in the Champions League, PSG’s Luis Enrique talked to fans about how good Liverpool is.
Fans are set to see a great clash between two of the best teams in Europe this season. Both teams are top of their leagues, which will only make the match more interesting.
This round-of-16 fixture will be a difficult match for the two sides. Despite this, Enrique talked to reporters about how good Liverpool are this season.
According to The Daily Mail, Enrique commented on the upcoming match while talking to reporters. He praised Slot for creating an “almost perfect” team.
“It’s difficult to imagine a better match-up on paper, between two dominant teams, with two slightly different ways of playing but teams with dominant styles. Liverpool have been one of the best teams in Europe over the past few years, they won the Champions League. It was difficult to improve on what Klopp did but Arne Slot has succeeded in creating an almost perfect team.”
Enrique also commented about the kind of players Liverpool have. To him, they are a “complete team.”
“There’s a player like Salah with incredible stats, but there’s not just Salah, there are lots of top-class players, it’s a very complete team. That motivates us and it’s time for us to also show we’ve got what it takes.”
The PSG coach mentioned the attacking options that Liverpool have. His praise for the team continued.
“They [Liverpool] have one of the best attacks in Europe, we’re going to look to keep the ball, but we’ll need to be careful with their counter-attacks, they’ve got three fighter jets up front. We have to be able to do what we’ve been doing since the start of the season, there’s nothing that changes.”
At the end of his talk, Enrique said that the first match won’t decide everything in this clash.
“We know that we’re facing the most consistent team this season, but the plan doesn’t change. It’s going to be a hard-fought, difficult game. The first match is not going to decide everything, but it’s a very important one for us. It’s hard for opponents to play at the Parc des Princes with the pressure of the crowd.”
Enrique might have rained praise on Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean that it would be an easy match for the English side.
Sometimes coaches might use this tactic to falsely make their opponent believe that they are better. Once ego takes place, the game is wasted.
The thing Enrique was absolutely right about is that it would be a difficult game for both sides. The good thing in this match is that fans can expect world class soccer.
Whether Liverpool or PSG advance to the next stage in the Champions League is yet to be seen. If the English side came out as winners, they would probably be one of the best, if not the best, European teams this year.
