The news of the latest John Harbaugh hire is already here. After losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18 of the 2025-26 Regular Season and missing out on the postseason, the Baltimore Ravens released Harbaugh that very Tuesday. MSN confirmed details of the Harbaugh hire. After hearing from seven teams within 45 minutes of release, the news broke in the early hours of January 15, 2026. The New York Giants have signed him on a 5-year deal. While exact amounts are unconfirmed as new information is unveiled, Giants Wire reports it to be worth up to $100 million.

Leadup And Fallout

After a disappointing 2-8 start last season, the Giants let go of former head coach Brian Daboll, creating this vacancy. The inbound calls were plentiful, but Harbaugh had just one in-person meeting. The team met with him on Wednesday, and the news was announced the very next day.

It’s also unofficial, but expected, that offensive coordinator Todd Monken will follow Harbaugh from the Ravens. Fans can look forward to playoff-calibre coaching to pair with their numerous young stars.

When confirmed, the coaching duo has some of the best young talent in the NFL to work with. The list is not inclusive of, but is highlighted by quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers. Skattebo and Nabers both suffered season-ending injuries and look to bounce back in a winning culture.

The Giants finished the season last in a relatively weak NFC East, in which only one team finished with a winning record. The Harbaugh hire has the challenge of improving their 4-13 record this season.
