James Harden trade rumors are heating up after the Cleveland Cavaliers’ playoff exit. Could the Houston Rockets or Minnesota Timberwolves land the former MVP this offseason?

Harden averaged 16 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.0 turnovers per game against the New York Knicks while shooting just 38.9% from the field and 31% from three-point range. He also posted a negative plus-minus in three of the four games against the Knicks as Cleveland’s offense struggled to create consistent late-game scoring opportunities.

Why A Harden For Randle Trade Is A Step Backward For The Timberwolves

The Timberwolves were in trade discussions for Harden in February. He would give them an upgrade at point guard.

A Harden-to-Minnesota move would be a wild fit, but it also raises a lot of questions. His playing next to Anthony Edwards sounds scary on paper, but the Timberwolves would be betting big on ball-sharing and late-game chemistry. Edwards needs the ball; Harden needs rhythm, and that balance is not always easy.

Julius Randle would most likely be involved in a deal for this trade to go through. Harden for Randle would be a bad trade that would set Minnesota backward. Randle is on an extended, cheaper deal and offers more cap flexibility.

How VanFleet’s Contract Impacts A Harden-Durant Reunion

It’s an open secret that Harden’s preferred destination for multiple years now has been a return to the Rockets. He would love to finish his career in Houston, especially alongside Kevin Durant. They were teammates with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Brooklyn Nets.

Harden is expected to seek a short-term deal, but the Rockets would still need significant financial flexibility to make a reunion work. Fred VanVleet’s contract situation could become a major factor in any potential move because it can be reconstructed which makes Harden’s return to Houston more of a possibility.

End Of My James Harden Rant

These playoffs didn’t make or break Harden’s legacy. At 36 years old, he is on the back end of his playing days. Did it help? Absolutely not. If anything, it validated the negative parts of his playoff story.

Harden might be sitting here with a championship ring if it weren’t for a bad Chris Paul hamstring, an unprecedented team-wide cold shooting stretch, and Durant joining a 73-9 Golden State Warriors team. His legacy was established nearly a decade ago.

Whether Harden joins the Rockets, Timberwolves, or another contender, his future will be one of the biggest storylines of the NBA offseason. The former MVP remains one of the most polarizing stars in basketball, and his next move could reshape the Western Conference playoff picture.
