It hasn’t been a smooth ride, but the Boston Red Sox are among the best teams in a challenging AL. There are several aspects for Boston to address before anyone can comfortably say they are a World Series contender. They look to be on the right path after a few disastrous seasons. The Red Sox are confident in their ability to win big games thanks to some of their stars at the mound and the plate.

The team has a great collection of stars from designated hitter Rafael Devers, second baseman Alex Bregman and pitcher Garrett Crochet. They are potentially more confident in the franchise’s future with some young stars who could be called up to the roster at any time. They already re-signed one prospect to a large deal and are confident about another who could be added soon.

Campbell And Anthony Leading A Talented Group

The Red Sox had several prospects they felt great about turning into young stars of the franchise. Three of the biggest are second baseman Kristian Campbell, outfielder Roman Anthony and shortstop Marcelo Mayer.

After a solid start to the season on the opening day roster, the Red Sox extended Campbell to an eight-year, $60 million deal with a $2 million signing bonus. In 29 games played this season, Campbell has accumulated 18 runs (including four home runs), 31 hits, 12 RBIs, two stolen bases, 19 walks, 32 strikeouts, a batting of .301, an on-base percentage of .407 and a slugging percentage of .495. Campbell has already become one of Boston’s most reliable players in just over 15% of the season.

Regardless, Anthony might be the next big prospect moved up to a Major League roster and it may be soon. The season-ending injury to first baseman Triston Casas won’t have Anthony move to first base, but he could take up a roster spot.

Anthony has been incredibly efficient in the 28 games in Triple-A ball for the organization this season. He has accumulated 29 hits, 22 runs (five of them being home runs), 16 RBIs, two stolen bases, 22 walks, 26 strikeouts, a batting average of .290, an on-base percentage of .411 and a slugging percentage of .510.

He will be one of the new fan favorites for the Red Sox once he is called up to Boston. Anthony was the No. 2 overall ranked prospect heading into the season

Finally, Mayer is one of the most dynamic young prospects in their minor league rosters. Mayer is an effective power-hitter who has accounted for 17 runs (including seven home runs), 28 hits, 34 RBIs, nine walks, 24 strikeouts, a .262 batting average, an on-base percentage of .319 and a slugging percentage of .495.

He has played second baseman, third baseman, designated hitter and shortstop in 27 games this season. As a fielder, he has accounted for 41 putouts, 42 assists, only two errors and 12 double-plays.

Red Sox Looking To Present And Future

The Red Sox are trying to break their postseason drought and bad luck in the regular season. There is a legitimate chance Boston can take the AL East title for the first time since 2018; when they won the World Series. Boston has an overall record of 237-249 in the last three seasons.

This season feels different with more stars, a more defined vision from veterans like Bregman and the young stars determined to contribute. Through the early portion of the year already, the Red Sox started 1-4 and then 8-10. The team has overcome mental and physical blocks to rise in the AL rankings into May.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora is positive for the present and he expressed it with the way that they are contributing veterans and young players last week. Red Sox manager Alex Cora talked about the availability of some young prospects who could be instant Major League contributors to the WEEI Afternoon podcast.

“But as our organization, we’re in a good spot, to be honest with you. You know, we’re playing better up here. We got some guys that can help us throughout the season in the minor leagues. So it’s a good time to be a Red Sox.”

End of My Red Sox rant

Boston is in a great place right now as they have the stars to win now and contend for a World Series title. They are also positive for the future in how they can compete for a World Series title. They’re more primed for a longer World Series title run than the Los Angeles Dodgers based on their current and future roster.
