Giulia has been a part of SmackDown since last May. Although she currently holds the women’s United States Championship, her overall booking has been very questionable. From being relegated to having only backstage segments and once losing the belt in quick fashion to Chelsea Green, things were looking shaky for Giulia.
That might be changing, as she is now regaining a buzz after facing Rhea Ripley on Smackdown, which featured a brutal spot that’s taking the internet by storm.
That ended up giving Ripley a black eye, who also gave Giulia a birthday shout in the process.
Giulia made it known before that Ripley is a dream match for her, and that wish came true. With WrestleMania around the corner, the stars seem to be aligning for Giulia to make a big impact soon.
What was interesting about Giulia’s most recent bout is that it was originally scheduled to be with someone else. It was first announced that she was set to face none other than Iyo Sky, who’s widely recognized as one of the best wrestlers in the world.
Many were worried that Sky suffered an injury, but she’s set to compete in two matches this week. Usually, this means that the WWE wants to save this match for a grander stage. In a backstage segment, Sky teased that she might go after Giulia’s United States Championship, which caused Giulia to snap.
A good part about Rhiyo being tag team champions is that they can travel on both brands. This gives Creative a good feel for how they gel with other superstars and see if anything can be built up down the road. There has to be a feeling among the higher-ups that Giulia and Sky can have a great feud and match, and this is exactly what Giulia needs.
It appears that the match with Sky is the ultimate endgame, but there can be another intriguing storyline that can reel fans in. Competing in the Elimination Chamber is Giulia’s partner in crime, Kiana James. James recently defeated Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax in a triple threat to earn her spot there with no outside interference.
An interesting scenario can now be brought into the fray when it comes to this duo. Given that James continues to accomplish feats on her own, will she begin to feel that she no longer needs to be in Giulia’s shadow? Would James now begin to find ways to set up more opportunities for herself and not Giulia? The WWE is all about surprises, and this would definitely be something to consider.
The possibility of a match with James against Giulia would be a treat. James had a great outing at the rumble and recently had fans chanting her name during her match. The fact that there are multiple ways that the WWE can have Giulia become a prominent figure is a good sign for her.
Giulia is now at a point where feuds with women superstars who are not household names and upcoming stars are in the rearview mirror. Following her match with Ripley, she had a backstage segment involving Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, two of the biggest women’s superstars on the SmackDown roster.
If the WWE wants to play this right, they have The Irresistible Forces take the tag titles off of Rhiyo on Friday and move them to SmackDown. Having more star power in the main event scene on SmackDown will propel Giulia even more, and she deserves to be launched into the next level.
