Are the Miami Dolphins facing a quarterback crisis? Meet 3 college quarterbacks to watch for the 2027 NFL Draft: Drew Mestemaker, Darian Mensah, and Trinidad Chambliss.

Through five games, Malik Willis has thrown for 849 yards and two touchdowns, with four interceptions and a 68.4 passer rating. His 56.2% completion rate is another concern. I still want to give him a second chance, but the Dolphins have legitimate reasons to evaluate their options at quarterback ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins Quarterback Crisis: Drew Mestemaker – The Dolphins’ Top First-Round QB Target?

If the Dolphins select a quarterback in the first round, I hope they choose Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker. He possesses a strong arm, a quick release, and the mobility to extend plays. Furthermore, he utilizes his 6’4″ frame effectively and plays with notable grit.

Among the top quarterbacks in this class, Mestemaker has clearly separated himself from the pack. While much can change before April, he and Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith are currently the only two players I would support drafting.

Miami Dolphins Quarterback Crisis: Darian Mensah – A Miami QB Prospect With Heisman Potential

Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah  had good numbers against the Florida State Seminoles, going 23/34 for 326 yards passing with three touchdowns and one interception on paper, but this was the worst game of his career. That interception on the first drive of the second half was a killer; that was a bad decision. Other times, it looked like he held the ball too long. But hey, he was steady later in the game when it counted.

He has the Hurricanes at 6-0 and is a legitimate Heisman contender. Leading the nation in scoring, he currently ranks as the country’s most accurate and efficient passer, with 18 touchdowns and only one interception in a truly electrifying season. Mensah’s combination of efficiency, arm talent, and big-play ability could make him a fascinating option for a Dolphins team potentially looking for its next franchise quarterback. From Miami to Miami?

Miami Dolphins Quarterback Crisis: Trinidad Chambliss – Could His Game Translate To The NFL?

Ole Miss Rebels QB Trinidad Chambliss threw for 241 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions in a 31-3 rout against the Missouri Tigers. He has accounted for more than three TDs in five of six games in 2026.

He’s undersized, and I really question how translatable his play style is, yet I can’t ignore that he’s balling. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s in the same jersey, but he reminds me a lot of Jaxson Dart, except I think he’s a lot more refined than Dart.

He surprisingly has good footwork in the pocket and much better accuracy than Jaxson did in college. If Dart can work in the NFL (when he’s actually on the field), I’m starting to think maybe Chambliss can too. Excited to see how he continues this year.

End Of My Quarterback Crisis Rant

The road to Miami’s next franchise quarterback could run through the 2027 NFL Draft: Mestemaker,  Mensah, and Chambliss. Three intriguing prospects, three different skill sets, and one question Dolphins fans should already be asking: Who has what it takes to become the face of Miami’s franchise?
