Day three of the draft was a huge win for the Detroit Lions, picking three of the 28 sleeper picks for the 2025 draft. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg spoke to several college coaches to find out who wasn’t getting the attention they deserved in draft consideration and compiled a list of the 28 most overlooked players. It’s safe to say the Lions were paying attention.

Overlooking Late Draft Rounds

It’s tempting to focus too much on the early rounds of the draft, as players garnering the biggest buzz usually go in the first and second rounds (except, say, Shedeur Sanders). Later draft picks, if done right, offer teams the chance to scoop up amazing players who might not have the “draft profile.” This doesn’t mean they aren’t just as capable of succeeding in the NFL or contributing to their team’s success.

For reference, here are some amazing late-round draft picks: Tom Brady—sixth round, Joe Montana—third round, Shannon Sharpe—seventh round, Jason Kelce—sixth round, Brock Purdy—seventh round, and many more.

Who Did The Lions Steal?

The Lions managed to nab LSU guard Miles Frazier in the seventh round, Boise State edge defender Ahmed Hassanein in the sixth round, and Georgia safety Dan Jackson in the seventh round.

An anonymous LSU staff member told Rittenberg that Frazier could have gone in the third round because he’s a smart player, well-disciplined, and a hard worker. All these characteristics were apparent as Frazier thrived in the SEC after transferring from FIU.

Broncos head coach Spencer Danielson had many wonderful things to say about Hassanein. He told Rittenberg he’s a culture changer, a motivated learner, and a smart football player.

Hassanein’s grit and hard work (he also said he would die for coach Campbell during his draft call) will fit with Detroit’s culture perfectly, and he could be the help Hutchinson needs with 32 tackles for loss and 22 sacks in his last two years at Boise State.

Finally, Jackson, the safety from Georgia, will hopefully fill the Lions’ huge gap at safety. Currently, they have no experienced players beyond Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. The two are considered one of the best safety duos in the league, but the Lions need backups, and who better for Jackson to learn from?

An anonymous Georgia staff member praises Jackson’s consistency, dedication, and versatility. Saying he can play special teams, safety, or nickel, and if you tell him something once, he’s got it, and you don’t have to worry about him.

End Of My Lions Rant

All signs point to Brad Holmes making another round of amazing draft picks. These players are dedicated, talented, and smart football players. They all fit with Detroit’s culture and will (hopefully) be great production players in the upcoming season.
