Another Kentucky player is off the board, with Deone Walker being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the 2025 NFL Draft’s fourth round. The Bills traded up 23 spots to get the standout from the Wildcats.
The defensive line needed some juice, and the Bills grabbed one of the top linemen in the draft.
His size and build stood out during his time in Kentucky, while injuries played a huge role in last year’s limited time. Make no mistake, Walker’s ability to disrupt is there, and the talent is all around him.
Walker finished his career at Kentucky with 10 sacks, 132 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 13 QB hurries.
Walker, a four-star recruit out of Michigan, was highly regarded with schools such as Michigan State and Alabama during his recruitment. In his freshman season, Walker was named as a first-team freshman All-American. He also earned first-team all-Southeastern Conference honors as a sophomore and was a second-teamer as a junior.
At 6-foot-7 and 331 pounds, Walker brings toughness and a fiery spirit to the Bills organization. He will add depth and potentially seei some time on the defensive front this offseason. Walker had 7.5 sacks in 2023. This will be the third Wildcat added to the Bills’ roster.
Ray Davis was selected last year in the fourth round along with this year’s group of players, including Maxwell Hairston and Walker.
This past offseason, the Bills focused on building their defensive line into a dynamic force by adding players like Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and Larry Ogunjobi.
With Ed Oliver as one of the main pieces in the fold, this new group has the potential to elevate the defensive line and make it one of the best in the AFC East.
It was a clear need for the Bills to strengthen and beef up their defensive line. They successfully secured their main target in Walker in the fourth round. He will play a significant role in adding depth and contributing to the rotations on their front line.
One of the main reasons Walker fell to the fourth round was due to an injury that limited his 2024 season, impacting his NFL Draft stock in the process.
Walker mentioned that he had a fracture in his back during the past season, which raised concerns among scouts and NFL evaluators trying to understand what had happened to the rising star from Kentucky.
He’s considered one of the most underrated linemen in the draft. Getting him in the fourth round, especially when he previously held a first- or second-round grade, is quite the steal.
Dealing with a broken back is no easy feat, so being drafted and receiving this opportunity is truly a joy for him as a player and for the Wildcats program.
The Buffalo Bills may not officially be the Kentucky Bills, as some have pointed out today with the influx of Wildcats on their roster. The addition of these three players could prove to be very beneficial for the team in the future.
The biggest topic surrounding Walker is his motor and conditioning. With the right program in place, it’s clear that he has the talent to succeed. The question remains: Can he put it all together?
Walker has all the traits to be a very good NFL player. In this offseason, his technique and motor need to be improved to see him really take off and be the player he was designed to be.
