Dean Wade has signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers worth $39 million. This deal was heavily rumored leading into the NBA free agency period due to the previous connection between Wade and 76ers President Mike Gansey. Prior to being hired by Philadelphia, Gansey was the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers with Wade on the roster. Now, who is Wade, and what does he bring to the 76ers?
Who Is Dean Wade?

Wade is a true 3&D power forward with great defense on the perimeter. His three-point shooting is great, despite his limited volume. He’s shot 36% from three each of the last two seasons on about three attempts per game.
Wade gained real traction as a starting-caliber player and elite bench player during the 2026 NBA playoffs. This is the moment fans realized just who he was. He was tasked with guarding PG Cade Cunningham, and he excelled. On 107 possessions, Wade held him to just 17 points (5/17 FGs) and forced six turnovers. His free agency stock skyrocketed immediately.
Dean Wade Gives Philadelphia A True PF

The 76ers have been running lineups with “fake” power forwards for almost the entirety of Joel Embiid’s prime. From Tobias Harris to Paul George, it’s just not what they needed next to the MVP. Wade now changes that.
Embiid is not the rebounder he once was, which is the only concern with the signing of Wade. He isn’t the greatest rebounder, so they will have to work as a team to crash the boards.
Apart from the rebounding, Wade will be the one doing all the dirty work. Switching on the perimeter, diving for loose balls, winning important matchups. This is all something the at Philadelphia has lacked seemingly forever.
76ers Still Have Flexibility To Sign More Free Agents

Wade will not be the only signing Philadelphia makes this free agency period. They are projected to have between $5m-$6m to use from the non-taxpayer MLE. There are some intriguing targets for them to take a shot at with the extra spending power.
76ers targets include Marvin Bagley Jr, De’Anthony Melton, and Gary Trent Jr. All three of these players would fill an important position of need for the 76ers. Bagley would become the backup center behind Embiid, a position that offers a great opportunity due to missed time. Melton and Trent would slot in as the backup SGs behind VJ Edgecombe. Melton would probably be a better fit with his defense next to rookie Labaron Philon off the bench.
Kelly Oubre Jr. will also be an interesting name to watch. They could re-sign him after using the full MLE, adding great depth to what was an extremely shallow rotation.
End Of My Dean Wade Rant
The 76ers’ signing Wade isn’t going to change the outlook on the entire season, but it certainly won’t hurt it. He’s a player who will give everything he has, and that’s something Philadelphia has been lacking. His perimeter defense will help in the postseason, and corner shooting should be more reliable than what they’ve had in the past. This is a great move by Philadelphia.
